keep a diary so what you take for granted becomes obvious and ask for a mental health referral??

Keep pestering your GP, he/she should refer your daughter to a Clinical Psychologist for diagnosis. As far as I am aware NHS is the only way. Contact the National Autistic Society for help and advice, though it is a bit of a postcode lottery with them as to how much support is available. Don't give up, I know how hard it is to get NHS to listen. The NAS have an Asperger's test on their website. My son did this test and we took the results to his GP to reinforce his request for help. Good luck to you and your daughter.

Go on line and contact the National Autistic Society. There will be a phone number to ring. They can put you in touch with a support group in your area who will be able to help you fight for what your daughter needs. It is true what they say about there being strength in numbers. The other parents at the support group will have been through exactly the same experiences as you and will be able to advise you the best way forward for your area. They will know who to contact to help you. In my area of Halton in Cheshire we have an excellent pro active support group Halton Autistic Family Support. Not only do they support the person who is autistic but the whole family is made welcome too because autism affects the whole family. We provide practical help with all the endless form filling, going to tribunals, fighting for the correct educational placement, benefits, social events, support workers and we have regular trips and meetings. We are a very active group. I wish you luck in finding the support you need and if by some chance you happen to live in Halton you can find our contact details in the local carers centre we are only a stones throw away.

I can totally relate to this .I have been banging on nhs doors since my son was 6 and everytime got nowhere being told he will grow out of it. He is now 15 and life is no easier. I have had CAMHS up north say yes he needs assessing and was put on waiting list at 13. Unfortunately i had to leave that area for a new bigger town. I thought this would be fine....wrong . He has a support worker a CAFTAC team and again back to nothing as CAMHS down here doesnt assess children over 11. I feel im permanently fighting this. I am so worried about his future now school is close to an end. He is classed as bright but canot handle exam/test conditions due to background noises becoming very prominent. Im not going to give up just dont know where to turn at the mo. At least i have finally just got a fab support worker who stands in my corner. There needs to be more for these situations. Its rediculous.
