Hi everybody, My son keeps hiding things and putting thing in strange places why does he do this?

Hi. My son did the same sort of thing when he was 17 or 18 ( he is 30 now). I didn't know why then and I still don't why. My best guess is that he wants some control over his life and environment. For my son it was a stress reducing action. I know this wasn't much help. Autism is a guessing game. Sometimes you guess right. Good luck. Bill
The teenage years are all about transition from childhood into adulthood. I can recall as a teenager wanting to keep certain things 'private' so trying to 'hide' them from family/friends. It was also the school telling us they were giving us more 'freedom' to study as we were 'young adults' that made me more aware of 'wanting privacy & security for my possessions' so I would try to identify 'safe places' to keep things such as my jewellery, my bank card, my favourite books, my favourite music....somewhere I would know that was where to find them (my mum used to refer to 'my organised mess').
What does he say about it?
my stepdaughter does, sadly some times she just looks astonished as to why you think she has done it, for example plates with rotting food on them in a drawer within a wardrobe. Sometimes she has even accused me of planting things because she 'would never do such a thing' it is a total mind game.
