20 mins cycling each day. Damn hard work, but my energy is soo much better since starting! Started terribly slow and gradually built up speed.

Basically the same as previous answer,but also keeping your weight down helps and if you do have a fall,less likely to break a bone.

Hi, I use my pedal exerciser every day for 1/2 hour at a time I have found by doing this over the last few years has really helped to keep strength in my thigh muscles, and make me more mobile. Keep up the good work you will benefit from it.

Hello Harry,

I´ve "googled" physio exercises for ataxia and landed on this page

cirrie.buffalo.edu/encyclop...

My therapist ( a very competent lady, I think) makes me do all exercises

mentioned:

exercises to improvie balance and postural reactions against external stimuli and gravitational changes ;

improve and increase postural stabilization ;

exercises for developing upper extremity functions ;

As I said I see her twice a week

Regards

Jurgen

Hi Harry!

I've had approx 6 x weekly sessions of Pilates. The exercises themselves

don't present much of a problem but, lying down and carrying out movements

makes me nauseous, even if I keep my head and neck as still as possible.

Also, it's difficult to get back up, my body feels very heavy. Never the less,

I've persevered and now can feel my 'core muscles'! We've also invested in

a treadmill, supposedly for me but everyone else queues up to use it!

Like others I exercise on my bike, also use a treadmil and do press ups My condition was diagnosed as very progressive 6 years ago, but I think regular exercise certainly helps.

Like others a stationary bike. Weights are good too. I will not bore you again with dancing, but it helps co-ordination. Here is link to dancing

I have a small exercise trampoline and I noticed that I cannot jump properly any more, so I have started trying to use it more.

Hope this helps : )
