Dear Pol63, When I was clinically depressed, I had severe anxiety along with that. That was 20 years ago (long story) and I've taken an anti-depressant ever since. I still feel a bit anxcious at times (due to my ataxia, I thinkl), but it's manageable. For a short time I also took Xanax, as that's a drug specifically for anxiety, but have not taken that for years. My suggestion would be for you to seek some help with a reputable psychiatrist for your anxiety, as there is help available! I know anxiety is an awful way to feel and my heart goes out to you..., ;o)

I know what you mean. I stopped driving and miss it terribly - my independence , yoga ,going to gym. People who don't have Ataxia don't understand. They try to but can't. X

Hi Pol63

I agree with the comments above. Please try and go to your GP about this as there are treatments available for anxiety.

Best wishes

Hi Pol63

I do hope your doctor said more than that to you. Not all medications used to treat anxiety are addictive but I hope your GP will have assessed your situation as to whether you he/she thought you would benefit from these other medications. Of course, not all treatment is medication. Talking therapies, for example CBT can be very useful in the treatment of anxiety. Again, I hope your GP made his/her own assessment as to whether this would be helpful to you. You might find it helpful to look at the website 'Living Life to the Full' which is a self-help website and is based on basic CBT.

Best wishes

Harriet
