Does anyone else on here 'bounce' when they walk... - Ataxia UK
Does anyone else on here 'bounce' when they walk during an ataxic attack? Any exercise will set me off but usually 2-3 hours later? Mxx
Hello
I sometimes feel like a human pinball lol especially at work working I will walk down a corridor bouncing anything that is in my path. It is worrying but I know it will pass xx
Hi!
I used to have a very strange sensation when walking, and I know this sounds silly. I felt as though I 'bobbed' along,
on the end of a string, like one of those balloons that stay up by themselves. xB
Yes, there are times when I feel like I`m walkimng on soft clouds and my head is all mushy and woozy. It can last for a few seconds or a few minutes - really weird.
It`s all down to the Ataxia SCA6.
Thanks, it helps not to feel alone! Mx
I believe "bouncing" is the nature of ataxia, as our gait and balance is highly compromised. I have my ataxia 24/7 10+ years, and don't remember what I feels like to walk "normally". This IS my new "normal"...,ha! It's my thought that the "bouncing" is because of lack of coordination between the muscles and brain. So I'll just "bounce" along...,ha! ;o)
I am sorry its the new normal for you, it's exhausting isn't it? I was like it permanently for 6 weeks from Jan to March after being completely normal with no symptoms ever before, luckily it improved, but does come on episodically and wears me out. Thanks for sharing, it helps to know you're not alone, especially when its all new and you are having to make huge adjustments to your life. Mxx
Yes, Missile, it does wear me out! But, what can I do but accept it? Sounds like you have Episodic Ataxia (EA1 or 2), whereas I have Sporadic Ataxia (always have my symptoms, 24/7). Like I said previously, this is my new (well, really, not so new) "normal". My best to you..., ;o)
Not sure if I describe my walk as a bounce unless you count bouncing off things as i go along!
I know this question was asked long ago. It is still relevant. Yes, I feel the bounce and "February's" explanation seems right. It's not like bouncing high and low, its more of a small movement. But it can cause one to fall. Be careful and well..
