Hi everyone just thought I'd share my experience yesterday. I've been unwell since February and the asthma nurse referred me back to the local hospital in May to the chest clinic who discharged me in January. I received a letter to ring appointment line if I hadn't heard anything by June 29th I rang this, apparently it was to see if I was in the system It was either an appointment or a telephone call to wait. Yesterday I rang my surgery as I was unable to get through to appointment line to see if I had an appointment on their system advised to ring hospital outpatient. Big shock!!! Appointment was declined by consultant I have had asthma all my life and have Copd I'm not sick enough apparently. I honestly laughed. I do know the world has been turned upside down and there's sicker than myself I just unfortunately need a little help at present. The lady I spoke to asked me to hold.. I did for 15 minutes on her return she told me she'd spoken to the consultants secretary and he'd only read part of the referral letter and declined any kind of appointment. After much apologising told me a letter would be sent next week. Do I trust this consultant?? Maybe not!!! Sorry for long post its just to say if you sitting waiting for a referral for anything at all chase it up. 5 months have passed for me waiting and unfortunately trusting. I normally see to myself I was a nurse for 40 years I know my chest. Stay well xx

Sorry to hear you are going through a hard time.is totally shocking in this day and age doctors are so cold and disapproving of asthma. In my own health issues just because chest X-ray are clear you must be putting on your symptoms and cannot be that bad. One time I had to ring the doctor for three weeks and then had go to the hospital because I was not getting any we’re with the doctor.
The problem is sometimes we hang on as not to make a fuss but at times we can wait too long for help. Looking at the NHS when I started in the late 70s we worked for the patients and not for profit our pay was really poor but to be honest I would av gone to work for next to nothing I loved my job. In the latter years unfortunately they couldn't pay me enough to cope with the politics of it all. It makes me sad. I'm going to be hammered over this but its my opinion.Im not against progress but only if helps not hinders.

I started nursing in the early 70's and couldn't agree with you more. An upsetting situation with regard to your consultant referral. I doubt that I would trust him either. Perhaps consider asking for a second opinion at some stage although I appreciate that this may not be easy. Best wishes.
He doesn't worry me one bit. He's just a person like me if he can't help that's fine will move on. I know my illness probably better than him but unfortunately cant get hold if what I need. Its the last place I want to be.

I think you'll find the consultant will be wary of making any more misteps with you after their first blunder. In my experience, doctors don't like patients knowing that they're fallible and try super hard to improve their image when necessary. Good luck with your appointment!

Good Morning All My mother was a sister tutor and if she was alive today she would definitely be writing now and say that the NHS should return to the old ways and put the nurses assistants to start with back to being orderlies and made to clean wards Etc. But with regards to consultants do not let them talk down to you and tell them to explain why and how they have made this descition, and if they dont tell them that that you want a full report of all your medical record and that you may take them to another consultant. {I have done this in the past}It is surprising how quickly they take a different attitude towards you and realise that you are the patient suffering with your condition and not them sat behind a desk. I take this attitude with all medics. I normaly have avery layed back attitude to life but I tell them and it does not matter to me but they are playing with my life.

How I missed the likes of your mam throughout the years of my career. I learned a lot from them. Maybe old fashioned but lots of treatments worked and I still recommend simple remedies to friends and family. Happy days. I agree totally with you.
It would take her approx 1 hour to starch and press the pleats into her Pure White Headware never mind the colars and cuffs Etc. I am still the pround owner of her belt buckle and a lot of her nursing items which she personally purchased. They do not know that they are born today. Having said all this I still apprdciate all the NHS Staff they do a stalwart job under sometimes difficult circumstances,
My uniform didn't have starched collars and cuffs it was bad enough with the hat. This crumpled in oxygen tents if you forgot to take it off before you attempted to put your head in. I still have belt buckle and badges. Like our medals really. I'm a big believer of the NHS but at times it makes me sad of happenings over 40 years. The laughter has gone and sometimes this was the best medicine. Your mam was probably a hero to many. She'd have many tales to tell and me as the next generation now retired carried her legacy.
Yes I miss her she worked mainly in the community and worked up to the ripe age of 70 Us Yorkshire folk are made of strong stuff
Really sorry to hear about your experiences. If I've learnt anything on my own journey to diagnosis with severe asthma, is to push for answers and always chase up! Hope you get the support and treatment you need soon.
I dont need much really. I know exactly what I have and the prognosis. I just thought in my naivety if you were referred to a hospital clinic by a Gp you were seen or a telephone call in today's standards. A decline of an appointment but not been made aware just lost me completely. Nearly a week and still nothing... Maybe declined again.
Long time since we spoke and bless you 🙏 ur having a nightmare x my asthma is abit better but unfortunately I have got a bad case of Fibromyalgia and wow it hurts so bad,I have been told that I can't get my kink as Dr call its straightened so ya not so good myself, hope ur as good as you can be all the best 😔
Would be good if someone could rub us out and draw us again. It seems every day its something else!! I've still got no appointment its pending apparently. Spoken to Gp who said cant help with medication nor appointment will have to wait. Im tired now can't even be bothered to argue there's no point. Thought about going private but dont want all the poking and prodding. Fibromyalgia very painful they say rest and pain relief and sometime physio can help but when everything hurts its hard to be touched isn't it. I wish you a speedy recovery take very good care of you. Xx
