Sensitive teeth, Tiotropium?

Hi all, my teeth have been quite sensitive for a while but in the last few months they've got a lot worse. I've also had mouth sores/ ulcers which I don't usually suffer from. I started using Tiotropium/ Spiriva about 6 months ago and I'm now wondering if it's a side effect of that?

The ulcers have improved lately since I've been rinsing my mouth out after inhaling it, but the teeth remain sensitive despite using my usual Sensodyne toothpaste and seeing the hygienist a couple of weeks ago.

Any thoughts please?

I have used Spiriva in the past but never experienced sensitive teeth as a result. But I did have other side effects which drove me to find an alternative LAMA inhaler. So you don't have to stay on Spiriva as there are other LAMA options. I'm now on Eklira Genuair and it suits me. I hope you find a resolution.

Sensitive teeth can be caused by a number of things. I started having issues when I was in my early twenties, so before I went on steroid based inhalers (though I had been on inhalers for asthma for over 15 years by that time). In my case the first symptoms were caused by receding gums, almost certainly connected to another medical condition I have (which we only found out about five years ago) aggravated by using an overly aggressive brushing technique using a brush with bristles too hard for my gums (I’ve been using very small and very soft toothbrushes intended for infants ever since).

Out of interest, how much fruit (particularly acidic fruit such as citrus fruit) do you eat?

Hi Noodlers, I've been taking spiriva for 4 months now but via a spacer because without it, I cough the meds out. The inhaler fits nicely into an aero chamber plus so the meds go straight to my lungs - lessens chances of sore throat, ulcers and possibly sensitive teeth. You have to turn the spiriva chamber first until it clicks, remove the top then insert it into the spacer, click the meds button and replace the top each time you use it. Worth a try as it may work for you.

Braltus(tiotropium) explains on their leaflet that it can cause cavities and other mouth problems as well as constipation.

I was moved onto Braltus from Fostair by my Asthma Nurse (no idea why) but I requested to be put back on Fostair - due to the above problems which I experienced and still am.

Not much fun with no dentists available - should these cavities start giving me trouble.

Fostair had its own problems for me with night cramps/thinning skin but has one redeeming factor - in that the leaflet says it can cause diarrhoea. It seems that all Asthma treatments have their problems - but I hope you get on well with your Braltus.
