Spiriva added t the mix

Hello folk, I am currently taking Fostair 200/6 (two puffs twice daily) - and have just had Spiriva (via a Handihayler) thrown into the mix (once daily). Please does anyone have any suggestions regarding the timing to take the Spiriva after the first Fostair dose...(i.e. half an hour later, an hour later etc.,)??? Any help gratefully received...😊

TBH I have mine at the same time. (I’m on relvar now but also took spiriva handihaler when on fostair). I’ve never had an issue and was never told to take it at a separate time, nor on my (many) admissions has it been pulled up as a problem. The only think I may do is take my vent 10 mins prior to both if I don’t feel like my lungs are in a happy place. Hope that helps. Maybe someone on here does have a timetable 😉

Thank you so much for your quick reply, it’s truly appreciated. What you say makes sense.... I’m 73 years old and only diagnosed with Adult Onset Asthma in May - and they’ve been finding it difficult to get a handle on it....so, it’s trial and error at the moment..lol.

Ohhh hi! I’m 73 also, diagnosed at 69 but probably had it a few years before that. Brace yourself. When it comes on so late at life its likely to be both more severe and harder to manage.

I just take mine as part of my "meds round" in the morning. Symbicort, pulmicort then spiriva. Just out of habit really.

Thank you for you kind reply, I really do appreciate it. When the doctor writes out the different prescriptions, no timing is ever mentioned (except once a day, twice a day etc.,). At 73 years old, I do t always think to ask...😂🤣😂

I always think "oh I should have mentioned/asked...." after appointments!

Emma's suggestion of blue inhaler before the others is a good one, often recommended by the respiratory nurses at the hospital as it opens the airways so the preventers get deep into the lungs.

I take mine all together in the morning, 2x puffs salbutamol (ventolin) 1st, then 1 puff spiriva, then 2x puffs fostair (200/6) then in the evening 2x puffs salbutamol then 2x fostair.

I did find that taking them 12 hours apart helped a lot, also since being on fostair my peak flow increased.

I take mine at the same time as well - I'm on Spiriva Respimat plus Fostair Nexthaler, montelukast and Phyllocontin Continus (and Ventolin inhaler). The Phyllocontin is the only one where I'm careful about timing and don't take it with the rest - I try to keep those 12 hours apart so I take them a bit later than the rest to fit in with my day.

Just wanted to add that I hope the Handihaler works for you, but if it doesn't it is worth asking if you can try the Spiriva Respimat (and ask to be shown how it works - easy enough once you try but needs to be shown!) I didn't find Handihaler much help, was on it and it got stopped twice. I thought the Respimat was the same and asked to be taken off too - lucky the consultant said no, because when my prescription got mixed up and I missed a couple of days my lungs got very annoyed with me and made it clear they wanted it back! Definitely find it helps.

I take mine at the same time. X2 Spiriva (respimate)first then x2 sympicort.

Then my other tablet meds after breakfast.

I take my spiriva respimat between 18-00/ 19-00 hours daily through a spacer tube as there's less dosage loss and no where near my other inhaler times

I take my Spiriva in the morning with my morning Fostair dose. I was in hospital recently and was taking them at the same time there with no mention that I shouldn't.

My doctor has me do 2 puffs of symbicort morning (8 am); 2 puffs spiriva afternoon (3 pm); 2 puffs symbicort evening (8 pm)

Seems like there are conflicting opinions here. However, I’m seeing a consultant at the hospital tomorrow, so will interested to see what their take on it is...😊

spiriva is to open air aways and the fostair is to keep inflammation down so i would do them close together spiriva first.

I believe that Fostair 200/6 is a combination dose....’inhaled corticosteroid and long-acting beta2-agonist’ and therefore as well as the corticosteroid, it also contains a twelve hour airways opener.... I’m going to check with a consultant at the hospital tomorrow. Thank you for your kind input, it’s truly appreciated....👍

Yes, Fostair is a combination inhaler.

I take 2puffs fostair 100/6 morning, 2 spiriva respimat at 2pm then 2 puffs fostair at 8pm has kept me well controlled since June 🤞
