Hi,

I have been a brittle asthmatic for 10 years and recently have developed a fluttering feeling in my chest. It started about a week ago and was only a couple of instances at about 10 minutes long. Now, it’s constant and the heartbeats are of varying strength, fast then slow then fast then slow.

I’m not overly worried as I have no chest pain and no dizziness as such, just the feeling of palpitations.

Are asthma meds to blame? I’m not well-controlled and worried that if the meds are causing this, they will stop the meds and I will lose any control I have over my lungs!

Sorry to hear this. If you’re getting it all the time now it’s definitely worth seeing someone about it and asking for a ECG. I know some asthma meds can cause heart palps etc (theo/amino springs to mind as something that can cause issues even if taken regularly). If it’s something that is asthma drug related it’s worth discussing risk/benefit and QoL before they stop it outright esp of you feel like it is something keep you controlled (had this discussion about pred with GP... he was concerned as lots of pred and didn’t want to give more but I pointed out the possible long term side effects of pred were a lot better than the possible short term side effect of not having it...). I hope things calm for you soon and they get to the bottom of it without making your control even worse 🤞🏻

Morning . My asthma is usually under control . But I too am aware of these flutter feelings the last few weeks . As well as feeling weak and no strength. ... I’ve had an ecg and all was fine . I’ve recently had changes in my medication. One is an added tablet to my already BP losartan medication, Doxazosin to help control my high blood pressure. And the other is a long term antibiotic to hopefully help reduce chest infections. But I’ve recently been made aware if a virus that’s going round . Sadly that’s as much as know . Take care
