Non steroid nasal spray

Anyone had any experience of non steroid nasal sprays. Do they work with asthma inhalers. Which ones worked?

Unfortunately mine have always been steroid nose sprays. I am on a new one, Dymista. So far so good. I usually get nosebleeds so hopefully I don't this time.

You could ask Asthma UK. They may know which nose spays are good. x

There are plenty of them.

You can ask your doctor about Allergodil nasal spray. It contains antihistamine which is called Azelastine. The problem is that steroid sprays are the most effective ones, especially if your main symptom is blocked nose.

I see. I have an awful reaction to the steroid nasal sprays I've tried. So was wondering what options I had.

I’m on Rinatec (Ipratropium Bromide) which is non steroidal. I take it on an as and when needed basis only and I don’t find it causes a problem as far as my asthma inhalers (Flixotide 250 and ventolin) are concerned. I do get nose bleeds if I need to use it on a regular basis (twice daily for two or three continuous days, for example) but I do find it’s effective.

Steroid sprays. Should I stand my ground and see if they have non steroid sprays.

Not only did I get it from my doctor, my doctor was the person who suggested it! Are you based in England? If so, I can think of no reason why your doctor should claim they only do steroid nasal sprays.

For allergic rhinitis, yes. I suffer from the non seasonal version, so I need one of these around all the time. For a while I also needed eye drops; I’ve always recognised that with me, itchy eyes can be a warning sign that my allergic rhinitis is beginning to flare. For a period of around seven years this was a real problem and I had eye drops to help with this (again taken on an as and when needed basis otherwise my eyelids reacted to the eye drops and began to swell up). That began to calm down about two years ago. I hardly need to use those now, thank goodness, though I still have them.
