Histamine Intolerance

I just wondered if anyone else here has been tested for histamine intolerance as a trigger for their asthma?

I have chronic asthma and have been trying to find a trigger for a while. Has anyone been tested for histamine intolerance if so where did you get tested?

Interesting. I went to the allergy show on Saturday where they were talking about allergies and intolerances to histamine. When talking to allergy uk they were really useful in trying to explain it all and what foods and things are high in histamine. May be worth contacting them for some advise. The main trouble apparently is histamine is not labelled on foods etc. But I do wonder for myself too. X

Hi jenzzie I was there on Friday. I was trying to find out more there and try to spot a connection to the two. Thanks for that I will get in touch with them.

I would be really interested to know too. Think there may be a bug connection especially for those who find antihistamine help. Found the show really interesting on Saturday and somewhat helpful here and there. X

I'm convinced there is something I have yet to detect that I am eating which is triggering an asthma attack.

Hi Hidden

There's no definitive test of histamine intolerance. Normally a clinician will rule out food allergies before experimenting changing any diet. Histamine intolerance is part of a spectrum, the body can also produce too much from overactive mast cells pr in some gut bacteria produces excess histamine.

There's some information and a leaflet you can download from Allergy UK: allergyuk.org/information-a... there's a few food mentioned on the leaflet that are high in histamine. As always please talk to your healthcare professional about it before you make any changes.

Hope that helps,

Dita

I had an appointment at the difficult asthma clinic at the Brompton and they are going to try histamine challenge as part of a series of lung function tests. Apparently there are new treatments out but you have get certain results from the test and various other blood tests to qualify for nice to let you have the drug . I go back in August for the lung function tests
