Ever since I was a child I've had asthma. However it's been gone for many years now.Ill be having a hard time going to sleep because of how uncomfortable I am because I feel I can't breath all the way(if that makes any sense).Sometimes my I get teary eyed because of it.Im not sure if it's asthma or It's something else.I have allergies too although I'm not even sure if there's any correlation.I don't wheeze when this happens so that's why I'm uncertain.

Hi Locker2478

Sorry to hear your asthma is affecting your sleep. I asked our nurse team and they suggest you make an appointment with your GP to talk through these symptoms.

You can get asthma at any age and similarly it can return at any age.

Asthma and allergies are indeed linked and seasonal allergic rhinitis (hayfever) that isn't well controlled can trigger asthma symptoms.

Symptoms at night could mean that the airways are inflamed and you may be reacting to triggers.

If you can make an appointment, you can download an asthma action plan from here bit.ly/2tlV115 to take with you to go through with GP or asthma nurse.

If you'd like to talk more in-depth about symptoms, triggers or asthma management then please call our asthma nurses on our helpline on 0300 222 5800 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm).

Thanks,

Dita

Yes allergic triggered asthma is very common. Symptoms like teary eyes, blocked nose, sore sinuses often go along with asthma. If pollen counts are high & you have some of these, and other people around you get them on the same day, I would guess most likely allergy triggered asthma.

Get a peak flow meter (cheap at the pharmacy) and use the log book that comes with it for a few weeks. If you notice your peaks going down and up with the severity of other symptoms you have your answer. Bring your log with you to the doctor (and mark the days where you have head symptoms) and you will be much more prepared.

I say this because although I can have audible wheezing when asthma gets worse I have recently been tinkering with peak flows and realizing you can have mild asthma that is not audible but your peak flows go down (and they go back up if you take ventolin). I like you experience long periods (decade) with little asthma then it comes back.
