How long does an asthma exarcebation last?

Hey,

I was just wondering how long a typical episode of asthma lasts for you? Mine aren't severe but last several days til I'm back to normal. i.e. no symptoms?

Thanks

My last viral exacerbation lasted around 7 weeks.

My last one lasted 12 weeks but my longest was about 6 months. On the other hand, it can be just a couple of days. I guess it depends on what triggers the attack and whether you are able to remove the trigger from your life or if it's something you can't eliminate.

Fingers crossed you'll be over it very soon.

Thanks, I'm feeling a lot better now. I seem to bounce between feeling fine most of the time, then after something sets my asthma off (thankfully not very often) I have a week or so where I feel really tight so its more difficult to breathe and out of breath moving but have never been gasping for breath whilst stationary, so I was really just wondering if this was normal.

Blackbird, it sounds as if you need to go back to your GP and discuss your problems - or possibly your asthma nurse. Maybe you need to adjust your medication a bit to get properly under control.
