Surprised at how surroundings can affect lungs! Take note...

So, I just moved. Which in itself was challenging on the lungs...

But went back to my old house today to hand over keys etc. I hadn't been too bad today but really noticed a difference the moment I stepped into the house, and when I was there - coughing, chest feeling a bit tight which it hadn't been. It wasn't severe but was noticeable.

I had been asked about this before by the hospital but had said I didn't think it was an issue in general as I've moved a few times and was at my worst in another house before this one, plus have been bad when I went away. I did know that the bathroom was having an effect - at the house I've just moved out of it was very cold in winter and I really felt that when I went in.

But given today, I guess the house must have been having some effect on my lungs, although it's clearly not the only thing setting me off! Just saying this as something to bear in mind as I really hadn't thought it was an issue. I know it's not always possible to move/change your environment (I wouldn't have been able to do much if I'd realised before and I was just renting so couldn't do much about the damp) but it is worth bearing in mind in case there's anything you CAN do - even if you think it's not having an effect, it might be worth looking into.

I guess certain substances get into the fabric of a house over the years .

I hope you will be fit and happy in your new house Philomela :)

Thanks Hermit!

I think it must have been the damp. I'd say maybe the mould, but I was tested for that and didn't show any sensitivity - unless the house was a breeding ground for something they didn't test for. Judging by the amount of mould, I wouldn't be that surprised...

We did look at a place where all the tenants smoked and it reeked! Decided against that one mainly for that reason.
