If you could get asthma anywhere in the world, and be treated by anyone, with money no object where would it be? I know sometimes you hear that they are doing lots of research in Australia or the US. Obviously I am biased towards the RBH and don't think I could get better anywhere else. But what do others think?

I move a lot, so every new move theres a new consulant, and a new treatment. Now that i live in england, my consulant said that the UK was way more advanced in asthma treatments than the US. I dont really notice much of a difference, but thats what the doctor said.
I like southampton and my consultant there much better than edinburgh where i was manily based before. being at uni in winchester my consultant came up from southampton to see me while i was in hospital in winchester. this has happened several times and i was very impressed. i couldnt ask for much more than that and my parenst were very impressed aswell.

I've heard good things about the National Jewish hospital in Denver, CO (njc.org/) but I think asthma treatment in the UK is as advanced as anywhere.

wales. due to the fact they have a pulmunary rehab which lasts for 16 weeks, they promote exercise both physical and breathing. I did it for awhile as i live on the shropshire wales border but due to costs(yet again) i was pulled off. While i was there i think it did help. I hope other counties start it.
Royal Victoria hospital in Belfast. I always go there and My con is there. I always get really good care and get seen really quick there!

Depends on consultants as much aswell i think, as Kath as had bad experiences at Aintree where as ther did me well for 3 yrs and passed me on when thye came to their limited of knowledge?
The RBH is the leading respiratory illness research hospital in the world. All you have to do and look at the research papers logged by RBH staff to see how much time is devoted to research.
I think of it more as a club than a hospital, because that is the way you are treated, as an individual and with great respect. The RBH cant be beaten, at any cost.

Sounds like RBH is the place to be, I think that would be my pick if I could go anywhere.
National Jewish in Denver is also quite good I think, especially for breathing probs related to vocal cord dysfunction.
BUT, I was quite happy being treated by my local children's hosp (lego hospital!). Have got new cons on Tuesday. Hoping that goes ok.

I first went to RBH when I turned 16 and then got discharged back up north with a plan for the local specialist hospital to stick to (needless to say that went down the pan). Having done the rounds of most of the hospitals in Manchester I am glad I got back myself back to RBH, I would not change where I go for the anything. My lung team are fantastic, I have never got on so well with a prof and think of my nurse specialist as a best friend. It annoys me a little that I wasted so much time trying to get decent care close to home because it just isn't there and I doubt it ever will be and even if it does shape up it won't be upto RBH standards. It is defo down to your relationship with your team though. My consultant at home although he has little knowledge and works in a small general hosp he has been so good with me and again I would not change him for anyone.

No doubts here it would be RBH, my son has the best resp con you could have and I know he wouldnt get better care from any resp team if I went elsewhere and paid. His con often tells him how proud the whole team at Rbh are off him and his sporting acheivements. I may not always agree with some of decisions made initally but I know everything the team do is with Seans best interests and genuine concern at heart and as a parent I cant ask for better than that.
