Dreams

I have had somee bad experiences with my asthma over the last few months so not sure if this is connected. I am also on antidepressents that stop me going into REM sleep. I keep on having dreams of struggling to breath having an asthma attack. I wake up and hot and tight chested and short of breath. Could this be a psychological thing or me having an attack in my sleep?

Dear Bizkid,

What a horrible way to wake up. It must be really distressing for you. I couldn't give any info on why or how this is occurring just that I really feel for you. I hope you get to the bottom of this quickly.

Hi bizkids

Hugs! I am not sure why this is happening or what it is? It is possible phycology or it could be real would say talk to GP or nurse ( i like nurses they friendly and helpful)

I get something similar - I often ""dream"" that I'm having an attack but then wonder if I am actually tight-chested in my sleep. Often after these dreams I will wake up tight and breathless as if I realy have been bad in the night.

I can't offer any answers but you're not alone!! PM me if u like

I seem to get more when my asthma isnt as good so was thinking it is mild asthma attacks but on the other hand I have changed antidepressents so could be the sideffects.

I have these dreams too! Always seems to be when I'm having an asthma attack. As I wake up in full blown mode trying to find my inhaler.

Hope you get better soon :) you aren't alone! Very strange isn't it?

I keep an inhaler and a neb machine in my room just in case!!!

I keep a blue inhaler by my bed as I wake up in the night with a tight chest, although in my case sometimes I'm having a dream asthma attack, other times in my dreams I can't breath for weirder reasons, like a shed falling over onto me once (I have no idea why it was a shed).

I generally think it's a case of my chest getting bad and that feeling feeding into my dreams, but if you find you have emotion as a trigger then the fear of a nightmare could well cause you to feel bad.

Sorry, I've unhelpfully turned this into a chicken and the egg scenario, haven't I?

Bumped this from the other month.

Is it dreaming of an asthma attack or having an asthma attack in your sleep?

Experienced this last night but don't know if it was real or a dream? Thinkin its a dream with me being diagnosed yesterday its at the front of my mind. But did wake achey and tight chested.

Interested on your thoughts!!

I have dreams I'm having an asthma attack every morning, wake up feeling tight chested and in pain, but as long as I am waking up and still here I'm happy. If you are at all worried about it, it will be worth talking to your doc about it. Loving the dreams on the singular, they are really weird, trying to remember them on a boring day can lighten the day

i often wake up wheezy, struggling with phlegm and coughing which usually makes me vomit...but iv only had a dream once that i was struggling and it was horrible so i feel for you...maybe the doc could look at changing your antideps or you could try relaxation before bed to take your mind off your chest if you do think its psychological x
