Nebulisers, which one is the best?

hey everyone,

I have a medic aid, freeway neb but the battery no longer works on it, I bought it abroad. I might get a new one, what does everyone recommend? I need a light portable one that's not too expensive.

Please help,

I think the Omron microair is favourite with users here, Bear Pharmacy seemed to be the cheapest I found, it costs about £155. Try to google for omron microair and see what comes up there may be somewhere cheaper around.

I originally had a profile freeway freedon which was excellent compared to the one I had borrowed from the hospital. However it was heavy and incredibly noisy. After about a year or so I did find that the battery was not recharging properly and had to buy a new one. The battery alone cost about £50. I still use this one but only at home during the day, if I am nebbing a lot or want to use saline (I find the nebules too large for the new tiny nebulisers).

My new one is a Profile AeronebGo. It is fab but was expensive - over £200 from memory. It is totally silent and you get a much finer mist than with the large nebs, you also don't get the condensation that drips everywhere (perhaps that was just me dribbling!). It's excellent for use at nighttime as I hated using the other one in bed or if I was feeling fragile as it seemed to judder through my head.

I think most of the new ones are about the same size - the neb part of mine is like a ventolin size and the battery pack that you plug into it about 6"" by 3"". The whole lot (including mouthpiece and I put strips of nebules in with it) fits into a case about the size of a large make-up bag. You can also use the neb by plugging it into the mains.

I know that the favourite on here seems to the Omron Microair so it is well worth looking at several types. A lot of people use rechargeable batteries - I keep meaning to get some but have not got around to it yet.

Here's a link you may find usefull.

Omron Microair

Hi Twistergirl,

The Omron Microair is the most suitable if you want a light and compact size. I take mine everywhere. I can even fit it in my bumbag when running. It''s very reliable and quiet too.Bear Pharmacy prices seem to be the cheapest as well.

Thanks guys,

That really helps, I think I might go for the omron micro air as it seems ideal for use on airoplanes. Does it come with a case? I need something to put all the neb solution in.

thanks for the info guys i hate my pari walkboy its almost as big as my main neb, but that pharmacy seems really good so i think i'll upgrade!!

I found NARA, a charity that help you get a nebuliser (or borrow one for specific purposes) really helpful. The Asthma UK advice line put me in touch. You can get their details here: guide-information.org.uk/se... Hope that helps, Han*
