Ear Infections

Hey,

ok, never ever had issues with my ears as a kid, now 23 and had so many ear infections just since last october its unreal, now begining to effect my hearing tho doc wont accept that bit. Anyway, I read somewhere there is a link between asthma and hayfever and ear infections and stuff, anyone know if theres any truth behind it?

Just Curious,

Thanks

Caz

  • That would be interesting to know as I had loads of ear infections as a baby and child, then hayfever that also developed into asthma as a teenager.

So there might be a link?

  • interesting point my asthma doc keeps saying everything i have is down to asthma didnt think ear infections could though..maybe as my sinusitis kicks my asthma off.

  • asthma, hay fever, sinus conditions and eczema are all interlinked and well documented, but never seen ear infections, but sinus infections can cause ear probs so would make a plausible assumption.

  • I tend to get problems with ears and sometimes infections, have had to have ears syringed on more than a few occasions now. (fingers crossed the olive oil trick will help)

Seem to start after viral infections which trigger asthma and generally wipe me out

  • I have hay fever and get itchy ears and throat (no probs with eyes!).I wear hearing aids as I'm deaf so have to be very careful I dont get infections. I used to get problems with sinuses but asthma came back and sinus probs went. I've just come off antibiotics after 2 and a half years every day, hoping that wasnt whats keeping infections at bay, could do without that.

If you think it's effecting your hearing keep moaning at doc to see ear nose and throat and nag him until you do, if it was any thing else we push for it. I went deaf at 28, luckily doc did a test with a tuning fork and realised I had problems.I have tests 6 monthly as I'm going profoundly deaf, usually it's every 2 years. There are so many options out there for hearing loss and the new hearing aids are fab. Regarding hearing aids, the NHS are only about 6 months behind in some areas with the private sector. In our area you can even choose the colour.

    Hope you feel better soon

  • Thanks for the responses. Its following conversations in groups an stuff, its driving me crazy missing little details and if one more person at work tells me i'm speaking too quiet I think I may scream. Being in a college with special needs its kinda a useful thing to be able to hear people. :(

  • If family are telling you your losing your hearing and your turning the tv up, they are two sure signs that you need your hearing checked.People ask me to speak up as I don't know how loud my voice is, it really sounds like you need to have hearing checked. Specsavers have a free hearing check in some of their shops. It's on the wall with headphones, so you don't need to ask anyone to use it.That maybe an easier option, then you know whether to talk to doc.

    Good luck

  • Thanks, I think I may have to look at going back to the docs, I know I've only had the tablets a week but the pain in my left ear is driving me mad. I've been at home today trying to get some work done for my assignments and my parents came in from shopping and had been wandering round the house 10 mins before I even knew they were back and that was only cause dad came upstairs, I'm not dizzy any more and whistling has eased but the pain an not hearing is really getting me down.

Sorry for moaning an thanks so much for the advice glad i'm not on my own with it all.

  • H. Hi

    Just Reading about ear infection,

I have just recovered from pharangitis

Which then effected my ears, it was really

Painfull, made me feel dizzy and had terrible

Headaches. Just got over that and now I have

Got chest infection, my asthma nurse had done

So well getting it under controll and now it's

All gone wrong again, back on steriod tablets.

When will it ever go right.

Down in the dumps............. Squeeky peeky.
