For ordinary wall paint I use Crown Breathe easy range - you can get matt stuff and also Kitchen & bathroom stuff

Gloss - go for waterbased with a low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) rating - a round logo with a picture of a globe on with wavy lines and the VOC levels, though not as easy to use as ordinary gloss.

Need to be a bit more skilled with the brush and ensure even brush strokes.

Most large DIY places have the stuff - B&Q have their own brand.

i am yet to find a paint that doesnt affect me its just another thing that seems to aggravate my asthma. I always have to go and stay with my parents while my wife does the glossing nd then stay until the smell gets alot weaker!!

From a professionals point of view, all the paints from the DIY stores are total crap, you can't get a decent finish and they are so thin you need more coats, Dulux tends to be the best and yes they do smell, and I struggle with them at times when using them, but open the windows and get a through draft, and do this as much as possible during application and is actually in the HSE instructions and after application. All the paints now have been reformulated to comply with lower VOC guidelines but Solvent based paints last the longest, another alternative would be the modified oil based, they are OK but still have a smell but not so much, but for indoors use Dulux do a make water based gloss that covers well and gives nearly as good a finish as traditional paints.

HI we had house painted outside last year and had to get low odour paint. I think it was homebase, painter just put extra coats of paint to cover woodwork. We just can't risk using normal paint. We moved to our house when it was new, my Son was ill for 6 months because of the paint smell, it just didnt seem to go. Hope you find a solution!
