liver damage and copd

I'm not a medical person but I think the smoking and COPD will be the cause of his breathlessness. The liver problems are probably connected to his drinking. Drinking alcohol can sometimes make me feel a little breathless but this is more likely to be due to volume or gas...

Think the two illnesses are unrelated in one way, but they are both quiet serious illnesses that need a new health approach and both smoking and drinking should be stopped to prevent further deterrioration. If the liver is overloaded as in liver damage then it can cause lots of different symptoms and affect the way other organs work, so who knows. Maybe you would be best talking to someone who has specialist knowledge of liver problems to get an answer. Good luck sorry can't help more
thanks for you comments
I can't help here really, but I do agree that they are probably unrelated. I probably drink more units than recommended, but when my liver function was checked as part of a huge raft of tests I had, it was fine. So I think I'm ok.
I recently spoke to a group of doctors and they said that the recommended limits are just a guess and people can drink far more and be fine, but if you are getting to a bottle of spirits or 2 bottles f wine a day, it's not a good sign.
I don't know, I don't drink anywhere near that, but can easily manage about 3 glasses of wine per day.

PS. My first husband was an alcoholic, and that is such a different thing to 2 or 3 glasses.
Check out alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency.

thank you, that was the connection i was looking for, i just forgot what it was called.this, will not change the outcome i just had an idea there might be a connection.
A double whammy - not good I agree that the smoking has caused his COPD not his drinking.
Thanks Gawd for that!
