Will I be ok flying and staying in cuba I have copd
Hello Elly
I haven't been further than Ireland since being ill. I have always been afraid of going to other countries which, reportedly, have health care which is not as good as ours.
The Maldives was my destination in 1987 (such a long time ago). I read up about the country before going out there to find out as much as I could. If a medical emergency arose then a flying doctor would be required - I suppose the flying doctor must have had a plane which could land on water because the island we were on was tiny.
Anyway, I made sure that we (my husband and I) were insured 'up to the eyebrows' just in case anything happened. Happily, nothing awful happened while we were there, the islands were beautiful, the people wonderful and it was an experience that I will never forget.
Read what you can about Cuba and make sure that you are insured for everything possible (including being flown home should it be necessary). I have not been to Cuba but have a couple of friends who have been and they loved the island.
I hope that you have a great time on holiday - I'm sure that you will.
Best wishes
Annec

Hi
I went to Cuba 18 months ago and didn't have too many problems. I had to get a Doctors letter to take my inhalers onto the plane, and like you I've had problems with breathing during flights in the past, not realising it was copd.
While I was in Cuba I did find some days were a bit too much, and I had to take it relatively easy, and also sit in the shade quite a bit. For someone who used to be a real sun worshiper that wasn't much fun.
My biggest problem was getting bitten and developing cellulitis. That was awful and caused a lot of problems while I was there, and also on the flight back.
Make sure you have all you need on the flight, and use a very good insect repellant, particularly on the beach. Also take spare medication with you, as that's something that they really struggle to get out there, and they had real problems getting me the correct thing to treat the condition. Even to the point where it took 2 days to find some calamine lotion!!
