Thankyou daz for the above info and to everyone else for their comments on telehealth - will go into this over the weekend x
Hi, I've never heard of these services but they sound good. Do people buy into these services as individuals, or is it referral process through GP? What is the cost?
Have been on Telehealth here in Devon for about six months now. I was put on the service as I live in a rural location. I have nothing but praise for the service. Easy to use. It's very reassuring that it's there. If they notice, or I record a change in my condition they phone me within a couple of hours of my recording. The real backup is still the pulmonary team at the hospital, but it's another string to the bow so to speak. I am also able to monitor my own condition better with the daily SPO2 reading. Hope that is of use.
Hi Everyone
Just to clarify on what Telehealth is.
Generally a person is provided with a piece of equipment that enables them to input information about their condition - this information is then monitored, perhaps by a nurse. The nurse may be based at a hospital and monitor a group of people who may live in rural areas. The nurse can then contact anyone who has inputted any info that shows they may be starting with an infection. The nurse may then go to visit that person - or contact the GP to get a prescription ordered etc. This type of service will vary from area to area - not all areas have it - and it is the NHS in that area that sets the service up.
Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark I have used the Telehealth since before Christmas. I think it is a very good way to monitor people with long term conditions and it helps prioritise the patients who need contact or visiting. Should any of my reading show up as being not normal for me I initially get a telephone call. It was put to good use the end of February due to my sats being low for a couple of days the nurse arranged for the doctor to visit and I was off to hospital for 8 days.
I live in Devon (Nr Barnstaple) and my comments are exactly as Knowledweller's above.
In addition, I feel more relaxed about managing my condition knowing that help is at hand should I need it. Although after 8 years of LTOT I have a pretty good idea when an exacerbation (sorry Flare-Up!) is coming on, there are times when I just feel lonely and vulnerable. Whilst other times I just want to be left alone to get on with it.........
Hi Mark we have it here in Milton Keynes about two hundred on it according to community matron s office. Can only be a good thing I think. because of the daily readings they have more of an idea what is normal for individual people and can ring alarm bells when needed and it gives a sense of being really well looked after. knowing you can ring if them if worried about anything
