I think when you come up for renewel it will be PIP. I have been lucky in that my renewel is July 2013 but because of my post code I had letter saying only renewels after October will go straight to PIP. So I was sent last week and returned regular DLA forms to them. Crazy thing is if I trusted them... and having done self assessment of PIP and having copies of medical reports it looks like I would be better off financially with PIP. But I don't trust them and am nervous enough that my renewel of DLA will get turned down!

At least in my case if I do get DLA again for 3 years I know they not starting to look at those claimants until 2015!! Its a mine field!

Hope you get what you need

Thanx for the help. Will just have to wait and see. If only i could buy a winning lottery ticket then wouldnt have to go through this worry.

We all want a winning lottery ticket rather than go through all the hassle.

Any renewal after October 2013 will be under PIP for existing DLA claimants, you will not change to PIP until the renewal.

I'm not sure how DLA and ESA would interact during the changeover to PIP. PIP will replace DLA, eventually, but only some parts of ESA will change to Universal Credit. As far as I can tell, the two are dealt with totally separate.

I have part of DLA and I've applied for ESA. I am awaiting being processed through the system. They were supposed to send a copy of the paperwork and had requested a medical certificate, but I've not had the envelope to send it in yet. I'll have to phone them back, took ages last time.

Download the PDF version of the forms and use those so you can fill them in on your own computer and be able to edit them. Then, when you come to renew, you can easily check back on before and even cut/paste big chunks of information over. 'They' may check back on your previous application and see if you missed anything out :O

Yes PIP applies for new claims from 1st April 2013 and thereafter on any renewal or change of circumstances for ecisting DLA recipients and with those on existing life or indefinate awards all being reveiwed for PIP as from 2015.

ESA will continue until it is eventually replaced by Universal Credit with the main change for disabled people being the removal of the severe disability premium used in means tested calculations potentially costing some people over £50 per week but the transitional protection (if any) for existing claimants has yet to be clarified so exactly how all this will work in practice is uncertain.

One other cautionary note is that whereas previously the DWP could not or at least should not have used an ESA assessment to change a DLA award under the new regulations the use of such information from Atos et al for one benefit will be able to be used for any other benefits claimed.

It should also be noted that the mobility component is now based on the abilty to "mobalise" and will include any aids available even if not used. This is the suposed "hypothetical" wheelchair logic that bases ones ability to get arround using a manual wheelchair or other walking aids even if the claimant doesnt have/use them. In addition the previous benchmark of about 50 metres has now been reduced to only 20 metres i.e. if one is able to navigate ones own home without either a power chair or someone pushing a manual one or similar you are unlikely to get the higher rate.
