Dam Sputum is always Lurking.

I'm having a really good day with my breathing, and my cough which for all of us never goes away, is dry and tickly. My lungs seem clear but you know its there, that dam sputum is always lurking somewhere in the depths of the alveolie and maize of pipes and tubes ready to breed and nurture the next bug that settles . So its time for the daily, get that sputum out'a there routine. Crank up the oxygen to full throttle and climb on the exercise/torture bike. It always starts off so easy but you know that only uncomfortable suffering and pain lie's ahead down the road where the view never changes. Well Iv'e done it now and sure enough up it comes, that horrible goo'y gung, cough it up and be gone with you I say, What a life we live eh' because tomorrow we go again, and again, and again. Is there no end to the manufacturing of this horrible gunk. A physio once told us at breath easy that sputum was her favorite juice as they can tell so much from its colour and consistency etc. Well I hate it!! its no favorite of mine.

My breathing has been really good too the last couple of days. I even managed a really brisk walk yesterday. I put it down to the milder weather again.

I quite agree, this gunk has lasted a lifetime for me with bronchiectasis. You are good to keep at the exersize and Lnne, I swim when I can.

My Lung Flute mucus clearing device is now my fairly speedy method of removing the stuff, have been using it a few months now and my lungs are cleared each day. I have used many different ways of clearing but the Flute is fantastic because it works on the "frequency" of the blumen gunk !

Yes the weather does make a big difference. I'm glad to say that I am stronger this year and am able to get out in the cold but its not ideal. Winter does seem to have returned again today here on the side of the Malvern Hills,Its a bit cold and windy so Iv'e had a day in on the computer.

Hi dall05 glad you posted this. Yes the horrible stuff is always lurking. At least you've found a sensible way to get rid of it daily which is better than the dread of it starting

at meal or bedtimes. Being of a certain age I try the lazy way of thinking of something else and this works sometimes and it frees itself. Och well we are living to tell the tale. The lung flute sounds interesting (and less strenuous). Can anyone tell me where these can be purchased as if I go online I either get lost there for too long or chose the most unsuitable (and pricy) one available. Very well done the people who exercise and Lynne a brisk walk would not be beyond even me now the weather has improved. Keep well all xx

lavender my Lung Flute came from lungentrainer.de in Germany, it cost about £44 and I paid using paypal. It comes with instructions in English and 20 spare reeds. It is suitable for copd, bronchiectasis and most other lung conditions and sports people, they call it lung hygiene there.

It is not available on NHS but will be eventually I think, it is used in US and many places around the world, as far as I know, it is not available in uk.

hope this helps,

Try a bit of singing untill you get a flute. You've really got to go for it and get your stomach diaphram working, this I find helps shift the gunk and anybody whose near by at the same time. Ha Ha. Its a bit of fun too! look after yourself lavender1xx.

I use a thing called a flutter device.its a white item that looks like the bowl of a smokers pipe. From Amazon about £50.I would not be without it. Brilliant piece of kit

I have a flutter too, used it before I got the flute. You would need to experience the "cutting speed" of mucus removal with the flute to realize how clever it is, I know we are all different but for me this is an absolute breakthrough.

It has the added bonus of settling my hiatus hernia back into a comfortable position.

Thank you very much zube dall and Chris. Heard of someone who was using this during a New Year's party and who was very comfortable with it but it wasn't a conversation I could join in and ask where they got it so I now have two options plus an opportunity to sing and

annoy the neighbours. Many thanks again all! xx

Like Zube I'm a lifelong bronch and can't miss a day of lung clearance or I pay a price. I have had a flutter and an acapella from the hospital. We all have our preferences and out of the two I prefer the acapella as I do pd and you can use the acapella in any position. My last one broke and I thought I should really buy the next one. The one from the hospital is the acapella choice and I found the cheapest place to get is was Amazon. Zube has had fantastic results from the lung flute and I am certainly going to give it a try.
