Suggest you start here:- blf.org.uk/Page/Recently-di... - (click the bit between the hyphens)
Give the helpline a call, the number is on that page, and have a chat with them.
Above all, don't panic, calm down, stop smoking (if you do) and don't be thinking you won't need any shopping next week...
Quite right many here have been living with it for many years and hope for many more with no doubt there is a life too live and savor
Following sound advice and been supported by this jolly band of friends.
COPD is an umbrella term for lots of things, it stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Take Gordon's advice and do some research!
We did a webinar on COPD and what affect it can have on your life which I think you might find very useful

Hope this helps. The BLF helpline are always willing to answer any questions you have as Gordon suggested. Give them a ring.

Hi Therah
Welcome to the forum.
Being diagnosed with any condition can be a fightening and daunting experience. Our webinar (above) gives accurate and factual information on what COPD is, how to live with the condition, treatments etc.
We also have a really good COPD pack we can send you out - free of charge. The internet is a valuable source of information but sadly it can be abused and you can find yourself accessing inaccurate and frightening information.
Try to stick to recognisable UK website - BLF (us) NHS Choices.
If you can give us a call on 03000 030 555 we will be more than happy to talk you through any questions or concerns you have. All of our calls our confidential so you can speak freely.
Best Wishes
Jo
Thank u Jo i was 39 when I got told after 11 days in hospital being tested frm HIV TB n loads of other illness as I went from gym freak to sleeping 12-16 hrs a day catching infection after infection for 18mhts all I got was its just u asthma playing up I not seen a dr over a decade to going nearly every other wk!!! I am angry as I feel the drs knew there more to it than just my asthma & kept me in the dark of what they may have suspected! Then I was told I had copd there nothing medically for me no leaflets or support agencies ect ect just a inhaler gave to me n sent on my way ........ I found the blf leaflet in a chemist mhts ago I just didn't have the confidence to check it out ! Is copd lung cancer? Is there medication for it? As I be honest I not very good with technology I only got ihoneto access Internet & I feel very stupid as I struggle to work it ...... I am in bed ill I treid to post a blog thanking all u replied to me n say once I better will read n reply answers I got ....... But I couldn't do it lol so I hope u get this
I agree with Jo, there is lots of information out on the net but you can lead yourself down blind alleys if you look on the wrong website or even go about it the wrong way and land up frightening yourself.
I have only been on this site for a short while and it that time questions i have been asking myself have been answered by just looking around here, and posted a question which was answered in a matter of a few hours.
All good advice Thera. Welcome to this site. When you have a bit more information, you will find it a great place to ask questions and get support.

Welcome Thera. I hope you find what you are looking for.
