I have looked for an answer to the question I am about to ask.
I have difficulty in breathing on exertion due to bronchiectasis and asthma. I am wondering if there are certain foods I could be eating and others to avoid. I have heard of probiotic yoghurts. I seem to recall that comments have been made - but cant find them.
I get my yoghurt in Sainsburys but it's probiotic GOAT yoghurt. Some people dont like the taste of goat products but this yoghurt, while tasting bit different to cows yoghurt, tastes quite mild and is quite easy to get used to.
I have severe reflux as well as copd and find i can tolerate goats' yoghurt betters than cows, and it produces less mucus in my throat, and virtually no wind at all (which came back mightily when i was off the yoghurt for a while).
Apparently - read this many years ago when i was first trying to control asthma - goat milk is easier to digest as the fat molecules are smaller than in cows milk, and are quite similar to those in breast milk. Who knows? - but it works for me. We had an NHS dietician talk to our BE group and she was singing the praises of goats' products.
The yoghurt is almost the only dairy product I use. Not cheap though.
If you dont have a Sains near you, Tescos often have it. But you could go on the producers' website which is: sthelensfarm.co.uk and see who stocks it near you.
I found this interesting - I am going to consider goats products but not sure what is on sale on the local morrisons. I have a feeling I have seen it. Still not sure what probiotics are. Thanks for your help. love Anniex
I believe spicy foods, are no good for you, there are certain vegs.etc to keep away from also. One important thing,is to make sure you eat small portions at a time. I had to give my oldest son goats milk, when a baby, due to his asthma,he thrived very well on it,and was asthma free,by 3 years old.
Is there a dietician you could see, at comm. health etc? Best of luck with it,
Cheers Wendells xx
Thanks very much, Wendells. I dont eat large portions - age related. I get uneasy about eating certain foods - natural instinct. As you say, heavily spiced foods, greasy items like fish and chips (I used to love my f and c) Hope the weather is a little cooler for you! I went out this am, and was glad to get home - the cold air sets me coughing even with a scarf. I am just listening to the local forecast - grim, treacherous, icy etc.,etc. Roll on the spring.
