Christmas Tree or not......

Can you believe how dull I feel? I bought a new tree for the first time in years last week and decided to put it up this evening as mam n dad said they would like to come up for dinner tomorrow. I thought it would be nice and festive. Well.

Its too big. Its massive. Its not just 7ft tall its about 7ft wide! I moved all my furniture around trying to fit it in but it beat me. Grrrrrrrrrr.

So, packed it all back up, (another trip to take it back now awaits) and put up last years tree. And you know what? It looks great. So as the old saying goes, if its not broken, don't fix it.

I am feeling very festive now..............hope you all are too. For those who are suffering and going through tough times, you are in my thoughts xx

It happens to us all - we act before we think, because it looks good in the shop we assume it'll be just a nice at home, still think of the money you save I hope you have an easy time with your refund :-)

I did have a little smile tanyamarie because Pete wants to change our old, black artificial tree for a posh new one. The problem is our daughter bought us the black one and it is perfectly fine, easy to put up and looks great decorated so I have put my foot down and said no. As you say, if it ain't broke don't fix it! Hope you and your family are doing well and thinking of you all too. Trying to keep Pete away from all the nasty germs. I get very protective at this time of year. xxxxxx

Have a great day tanymarie I am sure all will enjoy the tree and the eats :)

You could always put the 7ft tree in the garden and get those outdoor lights.

I intend to begin my tree decs today also.

Hi Zoee,

Good idea but I would have to move two swings, two trampolines and two slides first! It is safely back in the box ready to be returned. Have fun today x

I come from a very Christian family so Jesus is at the very heart of our celebrations!

We are going to stay with my daughter for Christmas. She decorates the room beautifully and a log fire. I had a bad experience with a tree years ago - gave a pine aroma, which made me wheezy. I have learned since.

What do people think about e-cards. I have mixed thoughts. Attractive but I like something to put on the mantelpiece.

E-cards are a way of reaching people in all corners of the world, and you can send a lot more free e-cards than you can afford to post

A little off topic I know but do we have Xmas trees? I'm not a religious person but respect all faiths and beliefs but no one I've asked can tell me why we have the,....anyone?

I can't have a real one the smell they produce makes me wheeze like crazy and my 3 dogs see it as an excuse not to go out in the cold for a wee!!

weren't they introduced by Prince Albert, Queen V's husband or was it Christmas cards. Think I must look up Wikkipaedia.

It was a gift from Norway I think and they give a free tree to the UK every year I believe. It's been tradition since Albert's days I think.

I love a real tree, and it has never affected my breathing, however in recent years we've had an artificial tree and a lot of them look so real you can't tell the difference. Especially if (like me) you cover it with years and years worth of decorations, even things made by my children (who are now parents themselves). There is hardly a space on my tree not covered by balls, decs, lights, candy canes etc. I love it!

i love putting up the christmas tree! we did mum and dads first - that always takes an age because my mum loves loads and loads of lights but inevitably each year some dont work so you have to spend hours fixing them before you can do anything else. She's down to 4 sets this year as opposed to the usual 6 (2 sets have finally given up the ghost for good now) - it looked fab once it was finished so me and my fella went home and put ours up. it's our first xhristmas tree together and although it's only 4ft tall it looks lovely and e're feeling really christmassy now! hope everyone has an amazing time!
