Jo,
Just wanted to let you know what happened with dad when he applied for the warm home discount through SWALEC. Well, all seemed to be going well, they said he could have it etc, they just had to send a form out as a formality. Upon receipt of the form he noticed that under the section where you were asked about benefits, it did not list Attendance Allowance so dad couldn't tick any boxes. He then rang them to query it to be told he wouldn't be entitled. Any other benefit was ok.
Well, needless to say, dad i stamping and so am I. That is clearly age discrimination, because if you were under 65 you would have DLA. He was that annoyed he rang his local MP to tell him.
It's the same with mobility, only on DLA not Attendance Allowance after 65 we aren' t supposed to want to go out !!
Hi Tanyamarie
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - i have been off.
It appears each fuel provider in the scheme can decide what criteria (following government guidelines) are used in the Broader Scheme.
Does your dad get Pension Credit?
I have looked on another providers website re the broader scheme and they only mention annual income and physical or mental disability - no mention of DLA.
Can your dad try through low income?
Please let us know how you get on.

Hi Jo, I am trying to find out if I can get hold of some of the foil insulation pads that you can fit between radiator and outside walls, do you know if anyone is doing this as a aid to help keeping warm?
Also I am wandering about curtains that are line with insulated material to help keep heat in, I can't have curtains too bulky as can't manage heavy ones putting up and down for washing etc, so I'm looking for something light weight that will do the job, something to maybe keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
I'm wandering if Age UK or fuel suppliers may be of help in this? Look forward to your reply.
Thanks you.
Zoee
Hi Zoee
Yes i have come across the foil insulation pads (somewhere in my memory) i will look into this and get back to you.
Will also think about the curtains because that also rings a bell.
Cheers
Jo
Thanks Jo, will check back again
I'm not sure if I can get a grant for them, just phoned Age UK and they have given me some more numbers to call.
Good Morning Everyone
In response to Zoee's post about foil insulation for radiators, you can but Heat reflector pads that when placed behind a radiator reflect the heat back into the room.
At the start of the year Money Saving Expert did have information on this and where to get hold of them at a reduced cost. Lokking now i haven't been able to find them at a cheap cost, but it may well be worth speaking to your local council to see if they are able to provide this. Warmfront are not able to provide these items.
Cheers
Jo
Thanks Jo, I will check with the local council. zoee
