Hi Medow

I think it depends on the type of houseplants you have and what allergies you have.

Apparently plants with smooth leaves can be better than ones with fuzzy leaves as these can trap dust.

NASA have apparently been studying plants that help to clean the air - the following link may be helpful.

Plants are great air purifiers, without plant life and trees to oxygenate and purify the air as well as help prevent boggy ground due to rainfall etc.there would be no life on planet earth. Plants respiratory systems produces oxygen on expiration during the day time and at night time small amounts of CO2, for this reason I wouldn't have more than one plant in the bedroom.

Better to house the plants mainly in the living room or bathroom. Also only keep a plant if it is healthy and get rid of any that are growing mould on the leaves or on the soil as this could have a detrimental affect on air quality and your breathing.

To see how plants respiratory system works, scroll down the wiki page link below:

Enjoy your plants :)

Hi Ruby, I too have these 3 plants in my bedroom and lounge. My husband and I have both noticed the difference in air quality. I love my plants they do us good and they look really beautiful. I recommend everyone buys some. Maximonkey

your answers have been really helpful, thank you, I will move some of the plants out of the bedroom, and let go of plants that are poorly as I usually try and revive poorly plants, and get more Boston fern. I feel really quite rebelious about it, ie: one more bloody thing I've got to change because COPD has pitched up with me, I seem to go from depression, to anger, to empowerment and hope, sometimes all in an afternoon ! Guess it's early days for me, My bedroom is very airy, white cotton curtains, striped floorboards etc, and the plants add to the image of clean air, and gives me the illusion at times that there is plenty of air in the room, even if I am struggling while bending down etc, thought the stuff on th NASA website was very interesting, many many thanks all x medow
