Thinking of upping my Vitamin intake..Mostly a Vit B..I hear B12 is good to help with energy. Not a great lover of Vits as a good diet is best, but for some of us on a low income its a godsend..Also on my list is Garlic..May help stem of colds and vampires lol..Just wondering if anybody has taken anything they consider to be a great help in terms of feeling more well in themselves and wouldnt be without..I know its not a cure but if it helps one fight of bugs etc please share as Winter is just around the corner...Thanks....X

Hi Scott -personally i am hoping that Summer is just around the corner for the moment :)

The supplements i have settled quite happily with now is a once daily multi vit and mineral (by Berrocca - i have it as a morning drink before exercise ), Vitamin D3 at 5,000 iu daily and Co - enzyme Q10, taken as ubiquinol (more readily absorbed by the body). I also eat at least one large plate of salad that includes as wide a variety of veg and colours as possible. P.

I read a Vit D is suppose to help with Copd/Asthma symptoms so am going to Holland and Barrett at weekend for Vit C Slow release,Vit B12 And Vit D and a garlic non odur capsule..

That Q10 is quite expensive but suppose to be good stuff..Have you noticed any benefits from taking your Vits to when you hadnt..?

Hi scotty there is no subsitute for real food really to help keep us healthy. Most of my nutrition comes from real food, only during winter months do I supplement. Supplements of Vit D3 and calcium I take because of recommendations from a health care professional. Personally I take echinacea and sambucol at first signs of a cold, both these are expensive, but worth it to prevent colds developing, I daresay docs wouldn't agree they have any affect, but my experience is they do. I take a course of a good multivitamin when a cold is threatening or if I have a lung infection and have to do the antibiotic thing.

Fruit and vegetables can be really economical to buy, especially if you buy in season. Meat is becoming more expensive now so I am introducing alternatives already, there are some good protein alternatives and these can be more economical than meat. Of course if you can get into cooking lentils, chickpeas, pynto beans etc this is an even more economical protein subsitute, buckwheat is an excellent source of protein but its not a favourite of mine, you can make it more interesting if you are creative in the kitchen.

When I told my doctor that I was taking Vit D3 he said a complete waste of money - but I still take them because have read how they're supposed to help COPD sufferers and I'm sure I read that NHS recommended them.
