I was asked last week by the British Lung Foundation Wales if I minded giving my story to one of the newspapers in Wales, and as I like to promote awareness of both COPD, and Breathe Easy agreed. It was a surprise though to see a full page consisting of one large photo. Who was that old man looking at me. Yep it was me in full colour. laughs.
As is common with many newspapers this is online and so you can read it. Have been told it is likely to appear in a few more media publications here in Wales, so guess the story will get told well.
Many thanks for the comments. I am certainly not a star. Although pleased that nothing was embelished. It has been written as I told it. A good account of my life with copd over this last 25 years
Excellent article and just what is needed to get lung diseases in thepublic eye. My dad goes to the Breath Easy meetings in Caerphilly......not too far away from you!
great news derrylynne it will help a lot of people know what life is all about
A great article Derek. I particularly like that while you stressed the serious and progressive nature of the condition, you also showed that we can do things for ourselves by staying active etc. I was also pleased that you addressed the oxygen issue in a serious but positive way. I have come across a few people who are determined to avoid it at all costs as they see it as a 'harbinger of doom', when in reality it can extend our lives by many years. Well done you Parvati.
great for COPDers to read this and for their families too ...well done, this will probably be the start of popular understanding of our condition
Fantastic Derek! It’s a wonderful piece and great to get your Breathe Easy group some publicity.
We’re always looking for media volunteers at the BLF and if you’d like the opportunity to share your story with the media (that could be newspapers, websites, magazines, radio, or even TV) email press@blf.org.uk and we can send you a form to fill in so you can tell us about yourself and your condition.
The BLF never shares your details with journalists without your permission and you are never obliged to take part in an interview if it's not your cup of tea – it’s completely up to you! Do get in touch, even if you just want to take a look at the form.
thank you for sharing and making others aware, very true that other people make the mistake of thinking were ok when sitting down and that nothing is wrong i know alot of relatives certainly thought my mum was pulling a fast one until she passed away. The more people can be informed the better!
a true Ambassador for promoting awareness of COPD. The times i have been told, you look so well....... you have put it into its true prospective. bless you..
