Hi, just a quick post, while I'm still awake. Just spent virtually all weekend asleep, got nothing done at all. Wake up in the morning, medication then sends me back to sleep for a few hours, although that side effect shouldn't be a problem now. Around lunchtime, wake up and get a cuppa, invariably fall asleep again. Get worried in the evening in case I doze off whilst the cooker is on, so frequently miss meals when this happens.
It doesn't happen all of the time, I seem to have batches of days (2-3 or 3-4) where I cannot stay awake. It is very frustrating!
Keep well everyone. X

Hi Richard
That is a problem, does your doc know this is happening? Do be careful when you have cooker on. Maybe set the alarm for when you food is about ready.
I sometimes set the alarm to wake up before taking the meds to go to bed, otherwise I end up sleeping on the couch all night.
Hi Zoe, I've spoken to my doctor, consultant and the BLF nurse who comes round. It was thought possible low oxygen levels were the problem but they seem okay. I have ended up taking my night time meds quite late because of it, or missing them entirely and then struggling the day after. The other issue is whether this problem was the cause for me collapsing at New Year, no reason found for that either.
I'll just continue as best I can and with luck find out what the problem is; either that or maintain perpetual motion so I can't randomly fall asleep!
Take care
Sorry you are experiencing this Richard.
I guess you've had all the other checks, cardiac, sleep apnoea, blood pressure, diabestes etc.
I hope the doc can get to the bottom of this for you soon. Have you had a sleep study done? Maybe ask the doc about this if you haven't had one.
Take good care yourself.
Keep in touch here and let us know how you are doing when you can.
You may be like me RichardAT and retaining CO2. I had this problem for months before it was diagnosed. As the CO2 levels built up in my bloodstream I became more and more tired, and when they reached a critical level I fell into a state of unconsciousness and was rushed into hospital where various tests established the diagnosis of "CO2 retainer". The problem is now under control by use of a BiPAP machine overnight (not as bad as it sounds) and I find myself wide away now in the morning and without the "hangover head" which was also a problem for me. I no longer doze of during the day either. My CO2 levels are now monitored every month or so by means of an arterial blood sample, taken by the Community Matron who visits me regularly at home.
Hi Elian. Thanks for the comment. On my last admission there was mention of me trapping CO2. I heard nothing about it once it had been resolved, or so I thought, perhaps it hasn't. The couple of collapses I've had have been completely without warning so that may well be the cause.
sleep..............simply in 2 works" I cannot " I keep myself 90% of the night coughing , spluttering ,resorted to sleeping on the sofa now not to keep people awake.
I sound awful , my inner organs sound like an old ship creeking ,or a Gail blowing through a barn, any ideas please how to resolve this .

Hi Al1969. The problem I keep having is not being able to remain awake. Even if I've had a reasonable sleep, I find myself falling asleep even though I'm not tired. This causes problems when I'm making meals, fire hazard. I do check my O2 sats in case they have gone low, but they are always at a reasonable level. My BLF nurse has said it may be CO2 retention which apparently could be due to being on O2 for too long a period during the morning. Sorry, I can't be of more help, I'm non the wiser on the sleep problem myself! Take care. Richard
