hello all, I would like to ask if anyone has any experience of Rituximab and if so how well did you tolerate it. Thanks 🙏

Hi barbs , I had a few cycles of rituximab over the years and never had any issues , your given medication just just before the infusion just to make sure you don't have a reaction but I've never had any issues at all

Regards

Stewie

I’ve had 3 cycles of rituximab in the past with no issues. Just tired after having them for about 48 hours. But you need to really stay away from germs etc for quite a while afterwards as it destroys your immune system. It worked really well for me as I can’t tolerate a lot of medications that are otherwise used for my condition.

I’ve had two full years of rituximab and a couple more a year or so later. It worked well for me in that it damped down my autoimmune disease. Sadly it also reduced my immunoglobulin levels drastically. That means I have very little immunity to bugs and covid. I understand this happens in about 5% of cases. As for the actual infusions you will be closely monitored. Don’t be tempted to allow them to speed up the infusion rate cos you want to get out of there as you may suffer more side effects

Thank you Mooka for replying and your positive comments. I had read that the first infusion is long because of side effects so fingers crossed 🌹

Hello Barbs52,

I had two Rituximab infusions late last year with a two week gap between each of them. I didn't experience any side effects other than feeling very tired.

This was the first time of having been prescribed Rituximab infusions, therefore the first one was given slowly taking several hours, and regular blood pressure testing and blood oxygen levels are done during the day. This was as a safeguard in the event I reacted badly to it.

The first infusion went without problems, the second infusion two weeks later was delivered a little more quickly.

I think this is a standard approach for most/all patients.

Hope it goes well for you.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards.
