Breathlessness & showering

Like many others here I have COPD + lung cancer. I find showering (& not every day!), I can just about manage, it's drying yourself after. A few weeks ago I purchased a large size towelling bathrobe, put on after a shower, only have to dry my feet. Problem solved! It has helped me, I can just sit down, get my breath back & dry off at the same time. I hope this small tip will help others.

Glad you've found a solution. If you really don't feel up to showering, there are excellent large body wipes available on the internet. Mine are called something like Cosylife. Someone on this forum (Don, I think) put me on to them. Leave me smelling of aloe vera. Where but this forum do you find useful advice. xxx

I have been doing this for some years now, out of the bath pop on my towelling robe which has a front zip and just sit and dry off. Has made my life so much easier

This is a great idea. It was part of the advice given at pulmonary rehab and it really works. Also a lovely cosy feeling in the winter. 🙂

I find my fleecy dressing gown works perfectly.

Yes, that's my solution, ever since the years of our much beloved member Vashti who was looking for a replacement bathrobe shortly before she died.

I still miss her wonderful stories.

Thank you for your useful suggestion. It made me think of the solution that my daughter has for the same sort of problem when she changes to go ‘wild’ swimming in the lake.

She wears a “Dryrobe” which (a) keeps her lovely and warm while she changes inside it and (b) fleecily dries her off and warms her up again when she gets out. She changes back again inside it too. Decorum maintained.

Such a garment could make a nice birthday/Christmas present, too!

You can buy really good versions of the dry robe for much less money but does the same thing. I got one for less than half the price and does the job excellently. Worth shopping around. 🙂

I quite like buying the real thing, though.

I'm very glad you found a solution younginmind. We find all kinds of energy saving ways to live don't we. I met my rower husband when he was 26, even then he was in the habit of using the edge of his hands like a squeegee blade to get off as much water as possible before using a towel. It was a habit I picked up so towels aren't hanging around damp & smelly.

Nowadays I do the hand squeegee, dab myself dry with a smallish towel then give myself a quick warm blast with the hairdryer in the bedroom before dressing. (Obviously not in the wet bathroom)!

you should moisturise your skin after so it doesn't dry out

I know 🤪! It's too cold in my house so I moisturises from the inside by having a teaspoon of olive oil in my brunch. It works amazingly 👌

I have severe copd and totally understand what you mean about this, I also have a shower over a bath and when I step out have to use the bathroom cupboard handle to hold onto with a towel wrapped around me until I catch my breath. Best wishes to you

Thank you for that! I keep meaning to buy one! By the time I have done all my routine things : combing my hair, facial cleansing etc etc I am dry! Thing is, I can't reach my feet!!!! xx
