Vertigo not going away

I'm five days into a vertigo attack and desperate for some help. I have had vertigo before, severe but lasting, at most, a few days. I can't eat and feel sick all the time. Even turning in bed sends the world spinning. My ears have wax and I'm wondering if trying to remove it at home would help

When it starts I take 2 stugeron twice each day then 1 twice a day. I also do Epley's manoevre which you can find on You Tube. The GP told me that whilst it is bad I can take 2 stugeron 3 times each day.

I get positional vertigo often. Milder than your symptoms in that I don't get the associated nausea. Fiddling about with my ears has never helped and sometimes makes it worse. I really would not suggest you try to remove wax at home because I doubt that is the problem and in any case you need a professional to remove it if it is the problem. There is medication for vertigo - have you tried contacting your GP or NHS111? I've not tried it myself as my symptoms are never that severe and I avoid medication unless it is absolutely vital. But several friends have tried it and say it helps. Hope you feel better soon.

I have only had one severe attack which came on after surgery. The GP prescribed some tablets. I cannot remember what they were. Maybe good idea to contact them. Good luck.

Similar symptoms, last century I was diagnosed with Labyrinthitis & prescribed Betahistine. Ten years later diagnosed with Meniures (sp) disease again prescribed Betahistine (because it had worked before). My own doctor called me in to do some tests because he was the balance expert of the practice. He told me both diagnosis were wrong and that it's Right Sided Vestibular disease & showed me an exercise. Later learnt the Epley Manoeuvre which works a treat so I do it whenever the dizziness begins. Amazing, demos on YouTube

A consultant taught me eply's in 1992.I have preached it to everybody who until the last few years have reacted as though I am mad. I have the same as you. A pain but at least we can manage it

Exactly Swizzy, DIY so costs nothing and it really works. Sometimes I have to do it two or three times but once its gone it can stay away for years. Lots of really good videos on youtube for beginners some with excellent graphics showing exactly what going on. ××

Hello, I get migraines, with no headache, but severe vertigo, and feel sick. noise and light sensitive. I take medication regular, and when an an attack comes, I take rizatriptine reliever. It's more effective if I take it right away though! X

I had a really bad case of vertigo years back, it just came on me for the first time when I was out walking to a friend's house, I was so embarrassed as I was staggering and I knew that people thought I was drunk (i never drank at that time) so I had to go sit on a wall, it was frightening. I made it to my friends place and it went as quick as it came. Well just a couple of months ago I had another bout of it and it lasted about 6 days, I felt sick with this one . Doctor didn't do anything about it. Fingers crossed I dont get it again as it is so unpleasant. Take care everyone

This is how I started with labrynthitis. I had a couple of what I believe to be warnings. When I had a proper attack of this I had it for 4 years and can't believe just how bad it was x

I go to my doctors when vertigo attacks me, the doctor or we have a clinical nurse proforms the Epley movement. Makes me sick straight after but does the trick. Good luck it's not notice to have. Take care and stay safe.

you may have BPPV .. look it up on Google . Usually worse when lying down

The Epley manouvre is easy & will help with that… but you should maybe contact your GP as well

I feel for you. I think vertigo is one of the worst feelings. I’ve had this several times but thank god not for a long time. The only thing that helped was someone doing the Epley manoeuvre for me. It didn’t always work first time & often repeated. I was lucky a GP at our practice could do it & the return to normal was immediate & such a relief. I was diagnosed with BBPV. Let you GP know & get some Betahistine. I hope things settle soon it’s so debilitating x

It's a terrible thing to have, I really feel for you. The eply manoeuvre helps and for some it really works immediately. I had labrynthitis for 4 years and it really affected my balance. If I feel it coming on now I take Serc which is a bestahistine and really helps. I also have Sturgeon in just in case it gets bad, although I find these very strong and only take one. I would speak with your gp regarding your ears, they should be cleared by a professional. It's one of the most debilitating problems I have ever had to deal with. I couldn't get up without being sick and was so thankful my mum, God bless her, made food for me otherwise I wouldn't have eaten anything. I hope you have somebody that can help whilst you have this. I hope you start to feel better soon x

I was prescribed Betahistine when vertigo came on. The vertigo has gone, but I still feel very unbalanced. Hope you're soon better. xxx

I have vertigo attacks. I usually take vertigon and use the epley manoeuvre- it's on you tube. You sometimes have to do it more than once until the spinning stops.

Have you Hypothyroidism, as not enough thyroxine can be the cause of going flakey? I have 4 people in my close family with low thyroid levels, so I think it is probably genetic. They are all on medication. Also my wife. She is on Thyroxine, and in 2020, maybe due to the pandemic, our surgery missed the fact that a blood test showed her level was low. I contacted them 2 years later, and suggested another blood test to see, and sure enough, she was low on thyroxine. They were doing blood pressure checks, to look for the problem. My daughter suggested it: we have to do their job for them. If you have an partially or inactive thyroid, it's important to get a blood test regularly. However, there are multiple other causes for dizziness.

yes as people have mentioned below the Epley Manoeuvre is a godsend as it helps dislodge any calcium crystals that might be sitting on your inner ear
