hi all I just last week finished my 6 week PR course well it was 1 st class , I was a bit worried before I started, but the clinical team where so kind and helpful, if anyone is offered this course, I would take part right away , it’s great for breathing techniques, confidence boost and lots of lovely people.

Hi Trevor It sounds like it went really well for you. I hope you feel a lot better in yourself.
I was accessed for PR in May but there were too many patients on the course, so my course now starts in July. Iam feeling apprehensive as Iam not sure what to expect. I hope I have a good experience like you did.
Don't worry Issy.its v welcoming & they show u what to do.u then do what u want or are able, as do the others.theres no pressure on anyone.u can sit out if u choose.then, most do tea+biscuits and talk about copd mainly, and a subject related to living with lung disease x
Thank you Pat. I think it’s just the unknown I get very anxious before I go anywhere new. It will be good to learn more about Copd and talk to others about their experiences with lung diseases. x
hi Izzy yes totally understand, I was absolutely like that but to be honest it was something different, the coordination team were so so kind there was no pressure at all , u just take your time and take part when your ready . Enjoy take care
Thanks for your encouragement Trevor! I am at last being put into the next PR class (first started asking 18 months ago) and am really looking forward to hopefully being able to do a little more exercise afterwards. And in the meantime the respiratory physio has given me some tips on ways to improve my breathing behaviour which have been really helpful.Onwards and upwards ☺️
Well done Trevor they do put you through your paces but rewarding to see how you are physically and so much self care information stays with you to enrich your life and make you more positive and live a better life .10yrs on since I attended pulmonary rehab and I still practice the exercises and breathing exercises everyday and feel so much better now than at the beginning of my diagnosis
thats great Trevor6. I went on one at the end of last year and it was very helpful and encouraged me to become more active. There was an offer of joining a gym on the GP referral scheme for ten weeks afterwards which i then joined. I was a bit daunted by all those exercise machines to start with but very helpful trainers, and have actually enjoyed going and loosing some weight and becoming more active which all helps those lungs. it cost about £35 for two sessions a week. There were many of us with health issues, so some like minded people about! I think i will join the gym through the winter especially instead of becoming couch potato trying to keep warm through those chilly months. All the best Sally 😀
I’m on the list but my consultant is a bit worried about my spinal and joint arthritis. I still said I want to try it and he feels I’ll benefit from it too also the physio team are really good so I should be in very safe hands.
After a three year wait, I managed to get on one of the pulmonary rehab courses towards the end of last year. I would thoroughly recommend it for a variety of reasons. You meet others suffering the same or similar conditions, each with their own story and how they have coped. That peer support can be invaluable. The information given at the talks, as well as the supervised physical activities make sure you are OK. But maybe the most beneficial thing that I found was that being watched when doing physical activity can identify much more than a medical appointment of 5 or 10 mins. From being told there was nothing wrong with me by a consultant at FVRH to being asked mid way through a pulmonary rehab course if I had a nebuliser at home..... I had one three days later!
I start the course in June at a gym!! so I am abit unsure about it but will pop along and see how I get on.I have heard good things about this course,so I am hoping it will help me with my breathing.
I had 12 such courses in Norfolk and latterly in Essex. Absolutely brilliant and I miss them greatly. Sadly my breathing reached the stage where the risks outweighed the benefit.
Him trevor ghoust rider here glad to hear this i have copd / other bad health problems i am 60 next month i did rehab 7 time most of them failed / now i do light excerises in my local gym / some time good but had a few good ones / i am in uk to
Good for you GR yes I have now bought some dumbbells and resistance bands and linked to PR platform at home . O by the way Happy Birthday 👍am 62 on Monday
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I too cannot rate it enough. I met some lovely people and a few of us joined the gym at a reduced rate for a 12 week trial, through PR, so we could carry on. Apart from helping me stay more active, it's improved my social life a great deal.
I did one course in 2011aged 69 and a second in 2016 aged 74. Sadly my illness has advanced so much along with other ailments that I can not do any more although I did stay with follow up exercise class until Covid shut it down and if they offer you that it's worth it.
