I’m new on here and I have COPD. I would appreciate any advice anyone has.
Hello: I’m new on here and I have COPD... - Lung Conditions C...
Hello
Welcome…….we are an amazing group of individuals here to help you with knowledge, humour, beautiful paintings and photos.
I have had Emphysema for close to 10 years. I stay active, exercising 5 times a week. I attend pulmonary rehab gym on Mondays and use an arm machine and Cubii for the other 4 days. Sometimes I get down and anxious but am learning to enjoy each day. The key seems to be to stay as active as possible.
Stay strong and remember there are no silly questions 🐞🐞🐞
What is an arm machine and Cubii pleas
please sorry missed the e xx
An arm machine is like riding a bike but with your arms. It sits on a table and has pedals for the arms. The Cubii is a brand name for a leg exerciser once again sitting down and pedalling. I have the manual one where you have to do the work. Hope this helps……🐞🐞🐞
Welcome to the forum superblackbird. My hubby was diagnosed with COPD in 2010 (chronic bronchitis ) and is doing as well as possible.
Do exercise as much as you comfortably can and see if you can get referred to pulmonary rehab which many find really helpful. Eat well and take your meds and inhalers if appropriate and keep away from people with colds etc. if possible. We always have our Covid and flu jabs plus pneumonia and shingles jabs to help stay well.
Take care xxx
Thank you very much xxx. Our Surgery is under investigation and has officials inside to make sure everything is being done correctly. I have just been Assessed for COPD Rehabilitation and am waiting to start classes. Its nice to feel that something is finally being done about our surgery. I will ask about a pneumonia and shingles jab, they have not been offered to me.
thank you again xxx

Hi there,
Sorry to learn of your diagnosis- there are a lot of us here with the same.
Common advice to stay well is:
Eat well, exercise regularly,
Take inhalers and medication as prescribed.
Learn about flare ups ( exacerbations ) and get them treated fast.
Pleased you are being referred to pulmonary rehabilitation.
Look after your mental health.

Welcome. I can't add anything to the advice you've already been given, except to say that it is possible to lead a full and interesting life with a lung disease. You just have to time things -take it slower if you need to. I'm glad your surgery is being given a kick in the right direction. i was with a surgery which ended up in special measures. It's very frustrating.
Welcome to the group, superblackbird.
I was diagnosed with moderate COPD on 2015, but have managed to improve that to mild (lower end of normal) by following the advice of people on here, most of which is above. I did pulmonary rehab which made a real difference and helped me stop defensive overbreathing. I also run a weekly singing for lung health group called Breathe Better Sing Together.

Welcome Superblackbird, You’ve found a precious forum offering much support. You’re not alone here and hopefully will feel reassured. Pulmonary rehab is very good or if not possible look at the lung exercises recommended on this website. Have a well balanced diet and drink a little more water than usual as this will help keep lung secretions easy to bring up. And as every one encourages more exercise such as walking. 🤗
hello Superblackbird
I got diagnosed with emphysema a few months ago so a lot of this is new to me as well. I had lung function tests Wednesday and see the respiratory clinic in July. I’ve learnt a lot from this group and no question is too silly for them to answer. I’ve downloaded lung exercises and will start them tomorrow and I’m also looking in to getting a collapsible treadmill for days when weather is too bad for walking. Try not to worry and stay healthy with exercise and healthy food.
