Hi sparkster, I was on 24/7 Oxygen from March 2017 until January 2018 when I was put on BiPAP as well as Oxygen at bedtime, because I suffer from Co2 Retention due to Scoliosis, which I was born with, I was then dropped down to 15 hours Oxygen, including bedtime Oxygen and BiPAP, since March this year I now only use Oxygen for walking and exercise, I just use my ResMed Lumis 150 BiPAP at bedtime.
So yes it is quite normal to use BiPAP with Oxygen connected through a port on your BiPAP ventilator tube to an Oxygen Concentrator, your BiPAP doesn’t give you Oxygen, it just supports your breathing, opening your airways whilst sleeping and provides a back up pressure when you breathe out.
You are given Oxygen to support your vital organs, when your own normal Oxygen levels don’t support safe levels of Oxygen needed.
I’ve been on oxygen 24/7 for two years and use a ventilator overnight. I have a concentrator upstairs (and down) which is next to my ventilator. When I am ready to sleep, I disconnect my tubing from the concentrator and connect the tube from the ventilator to the concentrator. Your respiratory team or oxygen company should be able to help you if you have any questions. Good luck!
