Hi I have just joined this forum.Bit of background info
Had asthma since I was bout 3 or 4 and had bad asthma attack few years ago but that was caused by another problem.
I have recently had my asthma review and it's very controlled my best peakflow is 500 and at the moment it's sitting around 450-470 which is still pretty good, I have been getting discomfort in my ribs for a long time now and short of breath especially at night, Does this sound like my asthma is playing up or something else? I did ask my asthma nurse can you have a good peakflow reading and still have asthma symptoms and apparently you can just means it's controlled asthma? Just wondering what could be causing the discomfort in my ribs all the time and breathlessness.
Thanks for reading. ππ

Hello and welcome Yumz199725 to this friendly group. As someone has said best get your problems checked out at the doctors. Good luck hope you get someone who is helpful and understanding. Brian
Good morning and welcome to the site, 500 is amazing output I'm lucky if I get 300. Do you cough a lot as this could be the reason for your ribs hurting ?
Thanks, yeah I managed 470 last night was the easiest it's been this week doing my peakflow normally Im wheezy and can't do it very far. ok thanks I will x
Hi, welcome to the forum. Could be anything from a pulled muscle to a possible infection. Your better seeing a gp even if it just gives you peace of mind π
Hi Yumz πββοΈ. Sorry can't offer any advice but wanted to welcome you to this lovely forum. I have found it so supportive and friendly. Your peak flow sounds amazing to me (mines 200 at best!) but then you're 25 and I'm 70 π . Hope someone here can help you xxx
Ahh thank you for such a lovely welcome x this group is so supportive. Yeah I'm impressed with 500 it's my best one! 200 that's so low, do you have an asthma action plan when my peakflow is 200 I need to be admitted to hospital xx makes sense for you though. β€οΈ
πYes 200 is my best. Think it might be my age and because I have Bronchiectasis and recurring Aspergillosis as well. The resp. nurse said only worry if it goes consistently below 150. You have other difficult health issues to deal with so fingers crossed you don't have to worry about your peak flow too often. xxx
That's good that you don't go below 200 then didn't even know that was possible x thanks hun yeah I very rarely have to deal with my peakflow being low it's only in winter I find my asthma gets bad, have been bit wheezy especially at night though β€οΈ
Ooo mine is low then π€ͺ. Resp. nurse did look a bit puzzled when I first did my peak flowπ . But I assumed it was just due to age and my lung problems π€. xxxx
Hello π and a welcome from me too! I agree with the others above, it's best to speak to your gp really as there are other causes of SOB - shortness of breath . In the uk GPs go through a sort of process to get to a diagnosis so the sooner you start it the better (it could start with blood tests to eliminate causes other than asthma). The rib pain could be related to excessive coughing? When the little muscles along ribs are sore it can be costochronditis The first time I had pleurisy I thought I'd somehow fractured ribs in my sleep because the excruciating pain on movement, coughing and breathing was very similar indeed. All the above need to be diagnosed by a GP. I have asthma too (and later developed Small Airways Disease and CFS), I'm absolutely rubbish at going to the GP but I'm learning (a bit late) how essential it is to get on their radar. My asthma is always worse at night so usually take an extra puff of Fostair and I can never, ever sleep with an open window . Not even in hot weather or floating in a beautiful Grecian bay, a proper lung wimp .
Hi thanks for your reply!I probably should of added I have heart disease and that can cause shortness of breathe but I have asthma aswell obviously. I did have viteman b12 defincey which was causing my short of breathe but I have had a blood test recently and my levels are normal so not sure what's causing it π. Ahh you poor thing pleurisy sounds agony, I have had pneumonia and that was awful the pain when trying to breathe was beyond words! X
Sorry Iβve no knowledge of asthma , just wanted to say Hi and welcome We all have different areas of knowledge on here but youβll always find advice from someone when you need it π
