Hi there :) I would check with doctor first, but I expect he will agree that yes you should up your dose again. I take two, three times a day pretty much all the time. xx

Usual dose 2x2 daily. Still thick for me but helps.

Hi its changeable seems to work well for a while but as with our lungs they are very sensitive and it takes a few weeks to see the changes medication makes even by a little reduction in carbocysteine so it seems like a bit of a yo yo effect. I started on 2 tablets 3 times a day eventually dropping down to 1 tablet twice a day over 6yrs eventually they didn't suit at all and I now have nacsys 600mg effervescent tablets once a day which are a lot easier for clearance

Try to contact your doctor, but it sounds to me s if you would be better off taking 2 again.

I have been stopped carbocistein as I was told that the latest research shows that it doesn’t help. It is interesting that since I have stopped it I have had 2 exacerbations

I take 1 tablet 4 times a day and have done so for many years. It does the job for me as i also nebulise 7% salt morning and night before nebulising colomycin antibiotic to keep pseudomonas in check.

I have had my carbosistein reduced from 3x a day to 2x. a day. I did not notice any difference, but then, I have improved anyway since I was in hospital end of last year. I would imagine no harm in increasing to to 3x a day again, as long as you have no side effects, but to be sure you could check with your health care provider. I am fortunate that I am monitored by the respiratory physio team and can phone them up any time for advice, and they will check with consultant and get back to me quickly.

It worked ... to begin with. Then I started getting swollen feet and painfully itchy hives all over my body. My GP switched me from the syrup to the capsules, but still I got the side effects. IF you're lucky enough not to get the side effects, I'd say stick with it. Even after a couple of days I could notice the difference with my chest clearance. Now I have to rely on brisk walks and daily ACBT. Good luck.

Can I ask about side effects?

I would call the doctor first. They will probably increase it back but best to check there’s no underlying infection.

I would, your consultant had already prescribed it. I have been offered advice to stop it in summer and restart as the the seasons change.
