Please can you tell me about your experience flying with Bronchiectasis? I have looked online and the advice is very confusing. I was diagnosed with mild Bronch and possibly asthma last year. I currently have 2 inhalers ( Ventolin and Fostaire) and I am taking Azithromycin 3 days a week. I would love to go to Majorca in September as I haven"t been away for over 3 years but not sure how this will affect me ?
Best wishes to all . X

I also have mild bronchiectasis and asthma and I made four flights last year while wearing a mask (that was the requirement at the time). I had no problems. There is good air supply in planes. Go and enjoy your holiday.
Also have bronchietasis and asthma. Flying has never been a problem. But have to go abroad when it is cooler. The very hot weather causes problems with breathing and pain in lungs.
Hi I have bronch and like you take azithromycin, and two inhalers and also carbocistiene. I have flown long and short haul and I would say as long as i get plenty of rest and tske a decent timed flight it’s pretty ok. In regards to the insurance I’m a bit naughty and only get enhanced when flying to long haul countries where I’m not sure of the health care x. It also depends on how I feel at the time. Although we were looking recently and found a good one with the post office, I think, that also covered medical. Hope you have a lovely time x
I have not had problems flying with COPD, but do tell the insurance company which does put up the price. On my last return flight, I used an SpO2 meter to check my oxygen levels through the flight and saw no change from normal as I was seated most of the time.
However, I got so fed up with the queues and the way passengers are treated at Manchester Airport, I've opted to go on UK holidays and cruises instead, so it's been a while since I've been in a plane.
I have been flying all of my life wth extensive bronch. It has never been a problem except that I try to get a seat as close to the toilet as possible. When the air pressure changes everything lurking down there decides to come out. It's a wonderful way of getting a clear out.
I gave up going on planes after a flight back from Madeira, and the air quality in the plane was poor. I have heard that the crew can control the pressure in the cabin, and it saves on running costs to have it at a lower level. I don't know if that is true. Apparently as the pressure falls the lungs are less able to extract the oxygen from the air.
Have a good holiday. Just remember to tell your travel company you will need assistance at the airports. It makes all the difference, even though I had difficulty in making the staff understand that I needed help with the luggage- I didn't really need to be wheeled everywhere. Bless them; they were very kind and they didn't bother to check whether my bulging rucksack fitted in the hand luggage checking gadget.😊
I have very severe copd and bronchiectasis and have just returned from a fabulous holiday in Ibiza. No problems flying. We always book airport assistance and I'm whizzed from arrivals to the departure gate which helps enormously as the walking is difficult. Insurance is expensive but we accept that. Always carry ALL meds in my handluggage, and take plenty. I can breathe SO much easier in Ibiza! When I check with my consultant she always says the highest risk is infection so I continue to follow sensible hygiene practice. My breathing was a bit raggy on the way out this time but nothing I couldn't handle. I say go for it! ☀️🏖🙂
Thank you so much for replying. What does airport assistance consist of ? I would never have thought of it. Also I am travelling with my sister will she be included in this ?
The assistance I have is a wheelchair and handler that we meet at the assistance area. They push me to and through security then to the departure gate. Then the reverse the other side. My husband deals with the baggage but comes with me. It's available for any disabled passengers but you do have to book.
How do you mean? I feel the same as at home. I must add that 3 days into hols I started with a chest infection, the first one for 3 years but I have taken my emergency meds and feel fine. I must also say, myself and my husband wear face masks on the flight. This is just a precaution. The weather here is very hot, hotter than normal. So be prepared to do less. Hope this helps. Hi. Been on 3 days a week Azithromycin for about 15 years. Had bronchiectasis since I was 18 years old. Travelled extensively while on this drug with no problems. Works well for me. Hope this helps. Enjoy!
I have had Bronchiectasis since a child, I'm now 75. Throughout my life I have flown a lot, both long haul and short haul. No problems at all. I must say as I've got older, I sometimes feel a bit wheezy once off the plane, no idea what that's all about but nothing to be concerned about. I, too, am on azithromycin 3 times a week, carbocisteine, relvar etc. Majorca isn't a long flight, so go for it and have a wonderful time. x
I went to Jamaica a few yrs bk I have ashma and COPD and I never breathed better to be honest I found no problems with the flight etc so have a lovely holiday and just enjoy
I fly quite a few times with and then without wearing a mask. I have no problems. I have mild bronchiectasis and asthma and have to have them declared on my travel insurance along with my ulcerative colitis hope this helps x
We have an annual insurance with our bank included with phone and car breakdown We have to declare medical conditions. It works out cheaper than to pay the stand alone annual insurance I think I used staysure? Previously x
