Drink plenty of water and fluids to help keep throat moist is the key as inhalers can trigger coughing sore throat and mucus build up
Hi, welcome to the Lung Conditions forum. Is your Fostair powder or spray type?
With either it's essential to take it correctly so thoroughly read the leaflet and look up Fostair website for a video of correct method of inhalations. If spray type then you must wait 30 seconds between each puff - thoroughly gargle, rinse mouth then spit out after each puff.
To my cost I discovered that I'd been using a different inhaler wrongly for 3 years which caused my asthma to be uncontrolled leading to mucus trapped in lungs therefore growing bacteria to cause infections and pneumonia. All fine now however, I developed Small Airways Disease as well as asthma so have to take more medication including loads of antibiotics over the years. I use Fostair too and find it excellent for my needs.
As BOxermad says, its essential to drink plenty of water, it helps to moisten mucus making it easier to get rid of - it also helps blood flow well and carry oxygen to where its needed.
If the mucus remains problematic then speak to your GP or respiratory nurse, there is a medication which softens it.
Good luck. P
hi and welcome. I take fostairnexthaler 100/6 and gargle after taking it and drink plenty of water xx
Have you tried using a spacer. I had the same problem until I tried that... might be worth a try, ask your gp
Hi Blades123
You only need to take 2 puffs of the Fostair once in the morning and once in the evening. Right now it looks like you are taking way too much with 3 double puffs twice daily. I have bee taking Fostair 100/6 for a number of years now and it is a steroid, l use a spacer and take a drink of water to clear the throat to help prevent thrush.
Hi Blades123 and welcome to the site x
Hi Blades123 - welcome! Just a thought - if the mucus is in your throat, check with your doctor that it's not connected with silent reflux, so-called because you can have it without the classic symptoms of reflux such as heartburn. Lots of us with lung conditions get this when stomach acid vapour and sometimes regurgitation get into the throat and cause lots of sticky mucus which is hard to cough up. But ignore if not relevant
Hi, a couple more ideas, Pulmonary rehab course to learn breathing techniques, research the “huffing technique “, Carbocysteine tablets, saline solution in a nebuliser and talk to you GP about a flutter device
You can actually get a stronger inhaler that only requires 1 puff a day, but as just starting they would want to see how you are with this initially, I suggest making an appointment to follow up.
Hi Blades123 welcome to the site it's a God send for all the information given to help us. and great advice from the lovely members 😊 I've suffered with COPD for last 10yrs or more I take ventolin inhaler also Trimbow inhaler. my flare up last year was very bad viral infection and so much sputum I was admitted to hospital for a week and sent home on an nebuliser and carbocestine tablet for the sputum i find it really helps to loosen it.Hopefully you get sorted out soon take care God bless you 🙏 ❤️ E.B x
