Bronchiectasis…do you get ‘dry’ days when doing mucus clearance???

hi.. ( again🙄)…I seem to swing from one problem to another. Last time it was too much mucus..& keeping me up at night…now , having improved & had a great few normal weeks, last 3 days I can’t seem to get any of the stuff up

Doing my usual routine Aerobika & autogenic drainage…& at the end of an hour nothing to show for it 😬)

Does this / can this happen occasionally????

Restarted NAC 2 days ago , carbocysteine doesn’t suit me

Thanks in advance…

Pat

In my early days of bronchiectasis, I found that carbocysteine did nothing for me either, so stopped it. Am fortunate in that my bronch is now mild. NAC has a very good press, but haven't taken it recently, myself. Maybe it's cleared things up? But not sure if you mean bronch problem still exists. If so, I'd continue with the clearance techniques regardless. And regular singing in choirs and walking helped me no end. 🙂

thanks for your reply

Don’t think it will ever go away…☹️ as I also have colonized pseudomonas ( which is why I feel a bit panicky if I can’t get anything up)

But managed to produce a little more yesterday thank goodness.. think it’s a bit stickier.. so going back on the NAC…

Wish I could sing! …do lots of walking though

Yes on occasion I get dry days but putting my head over a bowl of steam helps loosen it although I take acetylcysteine to help

thanks for useful reply👍

Tried steaming yesterday & did manage to produce more

& have started back on the NAC

Wasn’t convinced about NAC before but let’s see if it loosens the dreaded stuff x

I get dry days when there is nothing to come up. (I'm doing pretty well at the moment, which seems a rather shameful admission considering the state some others on this site are in.) Most days I manage a small amount, which is good because it means there is less stuff for the nasties to lurk in. You couldn't possibly be the same?

thanks Alberta…I’ve been doing this for nearly 3 years…still feel like I’m on a learning curve

Not really had dry days before .. always got a decent bit of gunk up…but Managed some yesterday thanks goodness.. just seems to take longer nowadays even though doing the same clearance technique🙄x

Hi Phil1 I also get dry days. Do you use Saline in your nebuliser? It does help. I'm always forgetting to drink enough water so I keep a bottle with me.

I do find it tiring doing postural drainage as I've gone older, but the pillow technique is a good one for clearing the chest.

I don’t nebulise anything at the moment

Have you ever heard of the Smartvest? Here in United States it is covered under insurance with prescription from doctor. It uses percussion to help expel mucous, it really works tremendously for me. There is another similar company making vests but not sure of the name ,but I always felt like I was choking on the mucous until I had this, I use it twice a day, hope you can find information about it to help.
