56 years ago our house was hit by lightning early afternoon, demolished chimney which crashed down roof, damaging and removing tiles. Lightning went to earth through water system, caused leaking cold water pipe and blew tiles off drains. I could smell slight burning so called fire brigade who came quickly, found beam in loft damaged but no longer smouldering. They were very good, put tarpaulin over hole in roof, after moving loose tiles. I had already turned off cold water. My baby daughter was being looked after by my mother so I could concentrate on clearing up etc which took quite a time. My husband had been down in London for a work conference, and didn’t drive home until late evening. He parked as usual at front of house over some of the small rubbish, came in and called “Had a good day dear? I was speechless! Memories!
