What a journey..

After 3 years on the list i finally received 2 shiny new lungs on St Patricks day thanks to the bravery and generosity of my donor and family.

12 hour procedure at the wonderful Papworth where all the angels work.

Few issues including a stroke which meant 5 days on intubation so intensive rehab due but as i say you can’t make an omelette without breaking the eggs.

So wonderful to breath unaided now and have a healthy 98 sp0 without oxygen assistance.

Onwards and upwards but what the heck have Liverpool been up to.. 8thβ€¦πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘

well done. It sounds like you are fighting fit again. It will now take a little while to get over the stroke. But if you can get through a double lung transplant you can do anything. I wish you luck.

Congrats. I had a Double Lung Transplant in the States in Nov. of 2020. Like you I had a stroke a week later. Neurological events aren't uncommon for transplant patients. Two and a half years later I am doing great. There was been lots of therapy and exercising but I am doing better than I had in over 20 years! All the best for your continued recovery!

Oh my. You know I was only thinking about you a couple of weeks ago, thinking you'd been a bit quiet of late.

Such fabulous news on your lungs. I'm sure you will enjoy them and use them wisely.

Very brave decisions of those losing loved ones, but I'm sure their families must realise, even if in time, that heir brave decisions have helped another family be spared the pain they have had to face.

Fqabulous news. Just fabulous.

Didn’t know until my family told me..

Hallucinations were amazing..

Convinced Joe Biden had been shot by a crazy bag lady and tried convincing my son who even had to go to hospital shop for Times to disprove me.

Like a madman i scoured every article looking for proof and my son saying β€œDad,if the President of the USA had been assassinated do you not think it would make the front page in big bold type and not be in a tiny article past the TV guide?”

Caspiana profile image
Caspianaβ€’ in reply toMrbojangles

Oh yes, I forgot about hallucinations. Yours were pretty bad and here's the thing they seem so real. I didn't have it as bad as you. Mine were rows and rows of sunflowers in sunglasses dancing the can can. I don't remember the rest but they weren't frightening. I know someone who thought the hospital staff were trying to kill them. That was bad and they had to be restrained and sedated. πŸ˜”

Mrbojangles profile image

i was also convinced the operation took place in New York and my family flew over to visit.

Caspiana profile image

That must have been very traumatic. These drugs are so powerful, but I'm glad to see you are back from "New York" now. πŸ˜…

Karenanne61 profile image
Karenanne61β€’ in reply toMrbojangles

When I was intubated, in a coma etc I had some really weird hallucinations. E.g. As an avid reader, I inhale books! I became convinced I could no longer read and would be unable to relearn. Even now , remembering, I can feel the utter, cold despair of a life without reading. Fortunately it was 'just' the life saving drugs.

Greenthorn profile image
Greenthornβ€’ in reply toMrbojangles

Did the hallucinations extend to Liverpool changing their red strip to blue? Mr B I am so happy to hear you alive with a brighter horizon ahead. I've had two weeks away from UCLH but tomorrow I'll give dad an airing on the wards!
