Recovery pneomonia...making progress, a struggle

After 3 months of being on oxygen and two months after pneomonia, I slept in my own bed upstsirs. Hospital bed I was given was so uncomfy. I paid to have stair lift put in. A life saver. Unfittunately due to 12 week wait for NHS physio to access if a need one, , I wont be entitlrd to the grant. I managed without carers, family, and only help from dog walkers. GP refusing to visit whole 3 months was shocking. I was a hospital at home. If not for m y own determination would never have inproved. No physio, did my own pul rehab. I hope others have not struggled like myself. I dud not receive my oxygen review abd was on 24/7 when not required. This made me ill. Cane off other than to exercise, do exertive tssks and improved rapudly. Another NHS blunder. Just kucky I have the inner strength as reduced to 6 stone. Thank goodness fir dog waljers stepoibg in when no one else would!

I'm saddened to learn of your struggles and the apparent total absence of the basic medical support that you should have been receiving.

Unfortunately, it appears that you, too, have suffered the same lack of care that afflicts many of us. Thank goodness for dog walkers 🤗🙏

Presumably you have sought help from your GP but have you been recommended by the consultant to be eligible for help from the local palliative care team?

Best wishes

I dont need pallative care! Only have severe A1AD. Years of life in me. I never mentioned pallative care, recovering.

I am fortunate to have both a Respiratory Team and COPD team who I can contact anytime. I have infection at the moment and rang for advice re oxygen. Now my COPD team are calling to my home checking me daily . So pleased I telephoned as I was using oxygen too much which is not advisable. Feel so much better already after just speaking to them.xxSheila 👍💕

Hi that is great news, I can speak to oxygen staff on phone, I am seeing them on Monday. A home visit wss promised. The NHS in Aberdeen just dont have the staff for home visits unfortunately a n d often only 1 GP on duty. Glad you get daiky home visits if required. Personal care was my main issue as was confined to bed. This caused nasty bed sores and incontenence.

Oh that's bad. Hope you get the treatment you require. I live in South Wales but it's my area that has the teams. Good luck. Fingers crossed for you xxSheila 👍🤞💕

What a strong character you must have Dumba to get through this and a sad indictment of society today that we are not getting the care we deserve, so well done to you and well done to the dog walkers. You just need to put some weight back on now and build your strength back up x

What tremendous strength of character you have Dumba but so disgraceful that you were left to cope alone. Well done for your achievements and wishing you well.

wow I admire your strength and determination in the face of such a lack of basic care. Pneumonia does take it out of us but you will improve especially with your determination. Sending you 🤗 and chocolates 🍫 to build you up again.

I am new on here but was really disturbed by your story and the lack of care whilst so poorly, Things are really wrong these days when you have to fend for yourself whilst being so ill, Glad you are feeling a bit better and hope the sunshine is helping. x
