HelloCan anyone help please what does restrictive pattern on spirometry test mean. I guess is it something or nothing. Also what will happen next if it is something. I see my GP tomorrow. The not knowing is driving me crazy.

I think most people with COPD have an obstructive pattern. Here is an article explains both. Did they say how bad the restriction is?

Thank you. I had my appointment today but still confused. It was not the GP it was a clinical nurse who said my spirometry readings 1.71 before an inhaler and 1.91 after which would makes me boarder line to asthma and I asked about the restrictive patterns and she said it could just mean I had a smaller lung or due to me having so many chest infections. She said I needed longer on the fostair 100/6 another 4 weeks them she would do another spirometry and see where we were then. If she needed to refer to a specialist then she would.
Did she say what your expected or predicted number should be? They have values that are based on your gender, age, height and I believe enthnicity, and they compare your results against those predicted numbers to determine the severity of you disease.
Yes she did she said 2.5
She also said 1.71 to 1.91 was only up by 200 and she expected it should have gone more than that after the inhaler
So you are in the high end of moderate which is not so bad. Do you have much in the way of symptoms? I am no expert but understood they need to see more than a 10% improvement and you have more than that, as yours is a bit over 11%. I believe they also want to see 200ml improvement which you just have. Maybe they were hoping to be more than the 10% and 200ml so it is more definitive as yours is kind of borderline on both.
Let us know how you make out after your appointment and good luck.
