That’s brilliant news, very reassuring. I’m booked in for Nissen Fundlipication surgery on 14 October. I have rolling hiatus hernia that consultant thinks is contributing to my breathing problems. I have been diagnosed with hypersensitivity pneumonitis.

So good to hear that you are now well enough to jog uphill guytane. Perhaps your copd is only mild and they were confused due to the problems from your hernia, whatever the reason celebrate this good news x

That is good news about the hernia removal helping your breathing. I would like to know more as I believe I am in the same predicament. Got the hernia in july of this year and shortness of breath has been bad since. I can feel and see the hernia just under my sternum and it seems to almost block my air at times. It shows on a lung ct scan, but doctors just want to blame the sob on copd. What kind of doctor helped you figure out the hernia was the cause? Were they sure removing it would help? Was the operation outpatient? Any advice for me to get some action on this? Tons more questions...thanks in advance.

simple test bend down. As though your tying laces on shoes sitting or standing if you can hardlybreath in as bent over then your haitus hernia is presing on your lungscausing restriction also food geting stuk if you eat quickly followed by pains in gut for ages is a sytptom op is about 90 minets ho home nx day i recoverd quite well. 3 months down line fully recoverd You need see doc to refer you to hospitail for tests mine was wuite big herna 8 centimetres 4 inches its gets worse if not fixed like whole stomach can go up in to chest cavity mine was diagnosed 11 years ago same time as copd was as the lung function tests were done with a hernia restricting my lungs to start withi do have ashma but not bad. Never efected my way of life now i can do normal things again like joging its fantastic

Thank you. Sitting and tying shoe laces or even leaning over the sink to brush my teeth. I feel the pressure from it and sob. Bad stomach pain after eating and also it randomly slides up to cut off air in. Pain is almost too much. It is definitely affecting my work and home life.

the surgeon who does the op see you and tells you wot it involves the say all wot could go wrong if it did if op went bad but they have to tel you that incase something went wrong but its just usual stuff you have to sign but you need to tell the surgeon wot your telling me and you get seen quicker yours sounds bad

Ok, I'll sign anything to get this out, and out of pain and breathe right again. I seem to get weaker by the day, i guess it's affecting getting nutrients from what I eat. Plus not sleeping well as the pain wakes me up. So no worries, they wont scare me out of it. I see surgeon on Monday 10/3 so maybe he can get me an endoscopy faster. Here's to hoping🤞

With the caveat that I’m not medically qualified. Only reliable way to diagnose a hernia (including the size of it) is via an endoscopy, which is where they put the camera down. Some hernias will show on x-rays and scans, but not all, and the size may not be apparent even if they do. In the UK, generally speaking they will only operate for a hernia of 6cm or bigger. After 10 years of horrendous acid issues, I was finally scoped and diagnosed with one earlier this year, but as it’s considered small at ‘only’ 4cm they won’t do anything further. I take whacking doses of prescription only drugs to keep my acid issues under control, which mostly works, but I’m pretty sure it’s responsible for a few issues I’ve got going on. I live in England and was referred for the endo via my GP.

if theirs no syptons like i had none to start with it gradualy got worse over the years then i new sumit was wrong when food geting stuk terrible pain s when it did and after a meal breathing would get worse if it effects your life its got to b made better i waited 3 half years b cause of covid ps i never got acid as acid never escaped from stomach valv but part of my stomach was protuding throughthehiatus wall hole had opend up some great vids on utube of the op and symtons mine was 8 cm sliding one which is similar to rolling one but 1 is more dangerous as it can wrap around certain organs i also was anemic few years ago and Hiatus hernia can cause that as you dont get all nutrions out of food b cause of hernia

Between Charlie G. and guytane, I can answer yes to everything. Acid reflux too, worse after meals, severe pain, the sliding and so tired all the time. Lost 12 pounds since july without trying. My gastro doc will not see me until 10/28 the soonest and then will schedule endoscopy. Sad to wait so long to be seen. Anyway, you have given me good information about this condition and I now know that is definitely my problem like I thought it was. I'll look at the videos....wanr to see one moving/sliding. Again gentlemen, thank you for the info. APPRECIATE IT.
