I was diagnosed with severe asthma in 2012. One of my symptoms was a persistent cough. My gp prescribed montelukast to stop the cough at night, and it worked.

A was told by the gp it was for the allergic aspect of asthma in children and adults.

There's plenty of information on the leaflet that comes in the box - or google montelukast/ NHS

Monelukast is taken to improve asthma symptoms and helps to open up the airways. I no longer take it as I didn’t notice any improvement in my symptoms and also had trouble with sleeping. I believe it has helped many people but we are all different.
