hi everyone, over my time on here you have seen my Passion for nature's beauty and my passion for cooking , these two things are what get me through my day, I have a lot to contend with each Day. It also helps me to remain calm in times of stress . Some people read books some its music but I prefer something I can eat . I think we all need an escape from our health's and inside we all have something that brings us peace

U do have a lot to cope with.its gd u have hobbies+ that u can appreciate the beauty around you.keep sharing, you're among friends here x

in reply toPatk1

Sometimes I feel I need to explain why I do what I do if that makes sense ok I post pictures of the sunsets and things but it is because I see the beauty we all kinda take for granted me included but when I was told that I had a short time limit to my life two things happened one was I started seeing what was around me and I became more appreciative and second to deal with the shock and also to help deal with all this I referred back to my true love of cooling.

My escape is reading and writing. We all need something and I think cooking is a good way to relax. xx 😃👋

I read and come on here to tell stories (all of them real), I do like cooking, not that adventurous, but more limited as I have got less strong. What I am trying to do, is get some of the pictures I have from a South Pacific Island, especially the sea, you might like them, if I can make this bit of technology do what I want.

How do you plan to get pictures SH? Do you have them with you? I like your stories because I know they are real and your straightforward way of writing with very little fluff makes for a good read. Keep them coming. xx 📖

I managed to get all my pictures onto my laptop, took a bit of time, as eventually found my little camera (half of them on its card thingy) could not make it work. So, hunted up, through all my charging leads, one that would fit the hole on the side. Nothing did, so wondered how much a replacement would cost. Luckily looked again, all round this little camera. discovered to my chagrin, it takes batteries, so no charging lead. 🙄 So I am now fighting to move a picture, from laptop store onto the BLF page. I think you could say that we are "in discussion at the moment".

in reply toSORRELHIPPO

😂😂😂 took me a while to work it out and I'm doing everything on my phone 😂😂😂😂

It would be interesting to see your photos Sorrel if you manage to master the technology. You sound to have done well so far.

I love to read a good thriller to take me away from every day life. I used to love cooking but as I cannot eat much nowadays I don't bother so much.

in reply toSuzie42

I struggle with reading because I have the attention span of an ant 😂😂 been like this for past three years can't stay focused except when I am cooking which is strange

Suzie42 profile image
Suzie42 in reply to

It's strange how different we all are isn't it.I suffer with excruciating cramp mainly in the night and can take up to 30 mins to subside and it will go quicker if I start to read, it relaxes me which in turn relaxes the cramped muscles. Downside is i keep reading for another hour or so which impacts on sleep quality. Cannot win 🤣

It's crazy how our bodies react to different stimulus 👍🏼

It’s good to have something to focus on that you enjoy Dave. Health problems can bring us down but hobbies or anything enjoyable can lift our spirits. Whatever keeps you going…….keep doing it. Xx👍🥰🤗

Good morning Daveyboy1963. Yes your so right pal. I have a wonderful friend who has many health problems and he is brilliant with his hands making things. And it helps to take his mind off the pain and stuff he goes through on a daily basis. Hope your day goes well today. Brian

in reply toBingo88

My day started bad and had to reach for the morphine but now I'm kind of settled down and relaxing 👍🏼👍🏼

You have to have interests when facing chronic health conditions. It's so easy to fall into depression and despair when you can't improve your situation. Being distracted from whatever your health problems are is really important. Forums like this are really helpful because you realise you're not alone in your struggles and you can share information and just tell someone how you're doing. So whatever floats your boat is good...cooking, taking pictures, reading, writing, singing.. I care for my husband after his double lung transplant and have rheumatoid arthritis and type 1 diabetes myself so plenty to keep me occupied. Sometimes I have despaired but keeping busy has been my distraction and I rarely just sit and think because that's when I get depressed. Davey you live in a lovely place and obviously have some friends who care about you. You share your great pictures and cooking but I understand that essentially you may feel alone especially after everything you have been through. But as long as you share you are not alone.

in reply toBiofreak

Thank you for understanding , your right I'm around friends here but totally alone , their Greek with little understanding of my condition and for them this is when family step in to surround you but I'm alone big difference . 👍🏼

Its good to keep busy Dave and it helps to keep the demons at bay. I like reading, cooking, gardening but sometimes the mind is willing but the flesh is weak, these are the days that the computer comes in handy. Its so easy to lose yourself among the vast amount of data. Its hard for any body living alone with no family close by, but you are only one click away from friends on here x

in reply toIzb1

I know and because I don't have a pc in the house I hammer my phone big time 🤣🤣🤣 . I think that when I'm sat outside and all you can hear are Greek people talking to each other and lots of them you really do feel isolated and then bad thoughts come to mind like I'm living alone I'm going to die alone it's horrible to think about but here palitive care is given by family it's shared I have to share with the thousands of mosquito 🤣🤣🤣 I'm doing ok though because I chat to you guys and gals and it helps 😂😂😂

I spent 2 years in Hong Kong and 7 years in Germany so used to hearing a foreign tongue, but then I was younger. My ex was in the army so spent alot of time alone and still do, so understand what you mean. People who live alone like myself and away from family are resigned to the fact that i will die alone and to some extend we all do, its just another step on the journey. In the meantime, keep showing us your lovely views and meals, you have alot of people viewing your posts even if some dont comment. Keep your chin up x

in reply toIzb1

I try to as much as possible I have good days and a lot of bad. It's not good being alone you tend to dwell on the bad things hence the cooking and stargazing 👍🏼😂

I think you’ll find that in your times of need Davey the Greek friends you have will become your family . I’ve never been to Greece but I believe they are very kind , caring people and that’s all you need Blood relatives aren’t necessarily the ones who will care and look after a person in need in any country . You just keep on sharing your great cooking with your friends and I’m sure they’ll always be there when you need them😊

It's nice to share especially when the island as so much history . It's like the collosus of Rhodes which is one of the wonders of the world , in its place since it disappeared they placed two large statues of deer , the deer were introduced to the island to stamp out the snakes

That's really interesting I didn't know that, thank you ☺️ Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxxxx 🌻🌻

in reply toDamon1864

I'm a mind of information that I've learnt about the island over the years. And like I said the island is famous for having the collosus of Rhodes , the Greek name for the island was Helios named after the Greek sun god , the story goes after creating the islands for all the other gods he created here for himself and that is why we have so much sunshine

in reply toDamon1864

If you want any information just ask what I don't know I can access through the museum . History was something I loved at school and college but talking to most people it doesn't interest them but Greece as it's twists because you have mythology that entwines it's with history ,

You are so right, Davey. It's good that you have a passion for cooking, you are feeding yourself which is important but you also can appreciate what is around you. I am not keen on cooking but do what is necessary to survive!! I love reading though, spend time on the computer replying to friends emails but also love to have long chats to my friends who can no longer travel to visit us, there's always lots of reminiscing in the chats. Keep up the good work and enjoy your fantastic dishes xxx 👍😎

I’ve had several periods of living abroad earlier in my life and I completely understand how you can feel alone even when surrounded by friendly faces. You have such a gift for noticing beauty around you and finding enjoyment in daily life! For me, my hobby is History of Art - I just love learning about different art movements and looking at paintings and sculptures. I’m v jealous of all the historical sites you have access to on Rhodes! X😊

in reply toFirefly25

At the moment till the heat drops I won't be out and about, which makes it even worse . It's ok being in a foreign country if your a couple or family but alone no . 👍🏼😁😁
